 | Anyone else seeing increase in latency? Round trip time used to be 30ms, but in the last few weeks has increased to 78ms. My routing is through ip-64-32-196-1.dsl.iad.megapath.net (Washington DC).
Is anyone else seeing an increase in latency? |

 | Re:Megacrap working my last nerve & $ Sure wish I saw this site before signing up w/ Megapath. Our old ISP(Chgo based)Interaccess went out of business and Megapath picked up many of their customers, too bad cause old ISP had GREAT speeds. From get go Megapath was a problem, of course any problems brought to them was never THEIR problem; Either it was Ameritech or my pc. Funny NEVER had a problem with other ISPs. My blood boils when I can get faster speeds thru dial up(happens waayy too often now)for the amt of $$ they charge. The customer response time (getting back to you)is fast compared to most, but what good is it if the problem(s) are not resolved in a timely, honest & dependable manner. I've complained about the speeds and was told it must be something with my PC. Installation was to go on a preexisting (dsl) dedicated phone line, instead they used my business ph. line, which did NOT work as they said it would once the router was plugged in, that took days. And in the meanwhile they were suppost to get the lines switched so to utilize the old dedicated dsl line........Fast forward- 9mo later here I sit on my business line, I gave up on them; They said the old dsl line "should work for you when you plug the router/modem in." NADA. 30min on the phone with a tech who ends up saying, I don't know why it's not working, it's not your pc." OK....not worth high blood pressure. Will be looking for new ISP in a few months after fulfilling my year contract. All this BS for $85. a month!:( |

Re: Anyone else seeing increase in latency? Hi, yes, today is the 9th at 9:30am EST and have been having difficulty with packet loss and high pings today and yesterday.
Someone please tell me it's not me. |

| reply to pmilligan I've opened a support case to check on the latency.
There happens to be some network problems today:
1/9/2004
10:30 AM - Pacific Time
Customers connected to the DC POP are currently experiencing intermittent periods of packetloss. Engineers are currently aware of the issue and working on a resolution. There is no ETR at this time.
I am experiencing some problems with 503 errors while browsing today, so I think this network problem is not related to the latency.
Support has made an initial response: "the region that you are in is having a slight problem with increased latency and occasional packet loss. Our engineers are going to be doing major maitnance [sic] in that region next week, and the problem should be taken care of."
They also asked to upgrade my router's firmware. This has been done, but there is no improvement in the latency. I'm not convinced that the maintenance next week will definitely improve the latency, but I'll wait and see.
Here is a line quality test from earlier this week:
»/quality/nil/1264592
and from today:
»/quality/nil/1266763
I wish I had a link for the line quality from before the problem started, but that had already dropped off the My Tests page. |

| The emergency maintenance for the DC routers came and went, and there was no change in the latency. There was an improvement in connectivity. Before the maintenance, I had trouble reaching a friend using SBC DSL (he's only 40 minutes away by car, but at least 1,400 miles between me, the Megapath POP and back to Indiana.)
I updated the support case and a Megapath support tech took action and asked Covad to rebuild the virtual circuit. That did the trick. The nominal round trip time between my router and the POP gateway is back down to 26 ms. My effective round trip time is still up a bit.
The local round trip time from workstation to my router doubled from 6 ms to 12 ms and higher since Megapath upgrade the router firmware. I will try a factory reset and restore the configuration and see if that helps.
Amid all this line work, Megapath changed its web pages. I wouldn't call it an upgrade. Along with a different style for much of the site, there is less hard data, and I'm having repeated problems getting to the support site. I may start a new thread on the new web site, but it seems that I'm the only one active in this forum. It still may be worthwhile to leave a record for any future visitors. |

tomkbPremium join:2000-11-15 Tampa, FL kudos:5 | This situation with megapath is beginning to grow intolerable. I support some customers with email and these connections are becoming more unreliable everyday. These past few months, their problems really seem to be increasing as evidenced by there status updates. |
