Re: National does not = everywhere said by tastypoison: I've seen the EvDO coverage plans for my market. Unlike our 1X rollout, we WILL NOT be making EvDO available on all cell sites.
Our initial EvDO coverage plan is to cover the airport, downtown, and east to the beaches.
Nada on the westside or rural parts of town. If you're in an area where you can get our EvDO...you can probably already get cable or dsl.
This means that it's as good as wi-fi (or perhaps a bit worse?) |

We highly recommend Battlefield servers to be run on dedicated server platforms. Currently, the best performance is on a machine with the following specifications:
8-player WinOS/800Mhz processor/256MB RAM/ADSL connection
16/32-player WinOS/1Ghz processor/256MB RAM/T1 connection
64-player WinOS/2Ghz processor/256MB RAM/T3 connection (You will need at least 4Mbit of bandwidth) |

Re: National does not = everywhere I wonder if we will be able to signup just for the data and pay $79/mo. just for data and not have to get a voice service along with it.
I've been waiting for this for a long time! |

You want more upload on Verizon DSL then pay for it. I have had a 1.5/384 live for 2 years.
DSL upload goes all the way to 768 and download to 7.1 as long as you are within 9,000' (EWL) of the CO. It's not cheap but it is available. -- Always Reach Beyond Your Grasp |

Re: National does not = everywhere I've been setting up some data plans for my company with VerizonWireless 1x network. When you get a data only plan the device still has a cell # but it's 25 cents a minute if you want to use it for voice. But that's for 1x Air Cards and current PDA's like the Samsung i700. I'm not sure if the new Air Cards for EVDO have voice capability. |

Re: National does not = everywhere Sorry Marley,
I have the card and it is definitely not voice capable. It will not handle sending out a fax even though it shows up as a modem in hardware.
This is a pretty big downside IMHO but as usual... they are playing the "bandwidth" card on this, hoping we will overlook the voice/data...
It will work, I'm sure of it. -- Give your parents credit.....I always thought Mom was being a Mom when she kept telling me "Fiber is good for you" Looking forward to Broadband in Heaven PTL |

Re: Download No upload Why pay $79/mo for 400/80 (that's the real speed I usually get) when I could pay $45/mo for Roadrunner cable?
Very easy answer: I can't take a cable modem with me to the park, the restaurant, the coffee shop, the doctor's waiting room, the car dealership, the home office in San Diego, ...
Plus getting 80/80 in hotel rooms and airports when I travel is nice, especially when I don't have to worry about finding an overcrowded WiFi hotspot.
