Re: aDSL Download problems If you install an ISA NIC, you can manually set the IRQ... the Kingston NICs that are part of the package are PCI and they let Windows select the IRQ for them... Most ASI crews have some ISA NICs still and, while they are older technology and a bit slower, they can solve some problems that otherwise are very difficult. -- Ever wondered if the sole purpose of your life is to serve as a bad example to others? |

Anon | Later BIOS allows manual IRQ assignments to even PCI slots unless it is proprietary in nature such as Compaq, HP, IBM, etc...my Kingston EtherRx PCI NIC card is manually set to IRQ 5 to avoid conflict with my other peripherals when I built my own PC with Windows ME and with AWARD BIOS... -- me surf via me house netwire, FREE to do anything... |

Anon | I have a recent AWARD BIOS, but when I go into PnP/PCI configuration and set the resource controls to Manual, the only choices I have under IRQ assignments are to switch between PCI/ISA PnP or Legacy ISA. It doesn't allow me to assign a specific IRQ to a specific slot.
NoHoP, since you're using AWARD BIOS and the Kingston EtherRX NIC, how exactly did you manually assign the NIC to IRQ 5? I checked and IRQ 5 is free on my system... in BIOS -> Power Management -> Wake up events, I can see IRQ 5 is reserved for LPT2, but I will never use LPT2 so this is the perfect choice but I can't figure out how to assign it to the NIC. I'm reluctant to switch slots again after what happened to my CMOS last night, but if necessary there are still 2 more PCI slots I can try...
Thanks again. |

Anon | Ummm...so you have different version of the AWARD BIOS, it's unfortunate. One way to get around that is to manually changed IRQ assignment via Device Manager (still just with a video and a nic setup) and see whether ME allows you to do that...
How many IRQ's left after your computer is fully loaded with peripherals but without the NIC? -- me surf via me house netwire, FREE to do anything... |

| reply to Anon Not to butt in on this reply, but you should leave your NIC where it is and not try to change your IRQ settings. If you are not experiencing any problems then leave well enough alone. -- -- (sing) I owe! I owe! So off to work I go! |

He left his NIC where it was but that's where the whole mess got started or he won't be posting here for assistance!?
In other words, he does experience problems to begin with.. -- me surf via me house netwire, FREE to do anything... |

| Follow the bouncing ball. He said he can test clean now, but he still wants to change his IRQ. I was saying that if he can test clean now, don't change anything that could cause him to not test clean. -- -- (sing) I owe! I owe! So off to work I go! |
