Re: Official Speed Tests Thread

mmm... I love my wireless ISP:

2004-01-19 03:07:06 EST: 7435 / 4922
Your download speed : 7435600 bps, or 7435 kbps.
A 907.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 4922067 bps, or 4922 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

I have Paxio as my ISP and I'm really thrilled to have a fiber connection! After suffering with T1 for so long, having a 100M connection to my home is awesome!

I'm still working through issues such as getting a firewall/router that's fast enough to keep up with my connection. It's also hard to find speedtest servers that can stress my connect.

Here are my numbers:

hi Joebarnhart

try one of this speed tests
»miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123/
»web100.rit.edu:7123/
»speedtest.umflint.edu/
»nitro.ucsc.edu/
»netspeed.stanford.edu/
»jlab4.jlab.org:7123/
»ciseweb100.cise-nsf.gov:7123/

they are all in university or government equipment i belive and should have some kick ass connections

Those tests are not bad. I can hit 95M download on the Stanford one, but the upload is always bad. The further ones seem to be limited by a pesky OC3 line somewhere in the middle which squelches the thruput to 45M bps.

But my firewall/router is getting tuned up nicely...

I think I've got about all I can out of my present 100M/100M connection. Time to move to gig??

Hey, could you hook up a Slingbox and host an Orb (a music and video streaming application for mobile phone) for me? I could really use that kind of upload! *chuckles*

Man, I'd love to have speeds that fast...Sadly though, cable and DSL, let alone FTTH, aren't available here, only 56k, satellite (I refuse to touch it), and EVDO Revision A (not bad, but semi-bad latency).

I would be interesting to see how fast speakeasy (or speedtest.net) would go with 1000/1000.

exactly what I was about to suggest.

cncr, his ISP is Paxio, quite possibly the best ISP in the entire US.
