Cod join:2000-07-05 Kernersville, NC | reply to MTBikerChris Not to make this a spybot vs. ad-aware dispute, spybot finds a heck of alot more spyware on a PC the the latter. Plus its ability to download updates to detect new spyware makes it incredibly accurate. |

 | reply to Sid I use SPYBOT & ADWARE they both work good for me. |

Re: Spybot is fine for me. More importantly than which one you like, please donate to the one that you like. It gives the authors incentives to keep the applications supported.
I like spybot and have donated. |

 | I concur! The only effective way to fight the bastards is with money (as unfortunate as that is). It's too bad that PayPal doesn't exactly have a clean reputation when it comes down to protecting your privacy and your credit card info. Fortunately we can mail a cash donation: »www.safer-networking.org/index.p···ernative
Oh yeah, Spybot - Search & Destroy rulez!
Actually, come to think of it, most German software rulez! (Ahead Nero, O&O Defrag, OpenOffice, WinRAR (that's Russian, but now is based in Germany, etc.) |

Re: Spbot is fine for me. Actually, Ad-Aware can now download updates as well.
I do have to agree, though. Spybot seems to catch more spyware, although I run both, just to be sure. |

| reply to Sid you really should use both SPYBOT & ADWARE

I'm curious how you tested this... If you ran SpyBot first and cleaned spyware out, that doesn't leave Ad-aware much to find. Say you've got 50 items of spyware and SpyBot finds 45 of them. Clean them out and then run Ad-aware. It finds the remaining 5. That doesn't mean SpyBot is better.
I run both actually. I don't care or think one's better than the other. I know Ad-aware doesn't consider c-dilla spyware, but Spybot does. At the same time, there's probably items that Ad-aware considers spyware that SpyBot doesn't... They're both small, unobtrusive, and free, so like I said, I use them both. |

I use adaware, but I also have a NAT firewall and sygate, running on all PC's, and then I use DSL broadband security checks and pcaudit to make sure I am suecure...With this setup I have reduced my miner and data tracks hits to maybe 20 a week and registry hits to zero (fingers crossed) Then Norton watches for virus's....I feel secure but am I??? |

jsouthJsouth join:2000-12-12 Wichita, KS | reply to Hall I think it was Maximum PC that said that Spybot removed a few more "spyware" apps than adaware. Notice a said a few and not "a heck of a lot more" like the previous poster. I believe this is due to spybot having more updates put out than adaware. That said I use both. |

| reply to NightLinks I agree about using both. I use both and I never have any problems. I also am using SpywareBlaster. In the past 2 years, the only spyware with which I've had to contend was the lop.com hijacker, but Ad-Aware killed it. I'm very careful now to update definitions at least weekly now on all three products. |
|
 | reply to NightLinks I second that. I use AdAware first, and then SpybotKiller. Spybotkiller frequently finds stuff that Adaware didn't.
It even found some Gator related stuff that Adaware didn't, which is strange because Adaware usually does a good job of rooting out Gator...
Just installed the SpywareBlaster. Thanks guys, for the ideas. |
