Re: Spybot Is Good, But...

It's been dead on so far. I have a habit of collecting hacks and malware from systems I clean off so that I can better understand them (I'm an IT Manager who usually ends up doing network admin work). I bury them in a zip file and dissect them as needed. Pest Patrol even picked up a readme.txt from a hacktool that was three levels deep in that zip (as well as 48 other nasties)!

Pest Patrol also gives you better control over what is and isn't scanned. On that option page there is a disclaimer about false positives that can be generated by scanning "all files". As long as you know your backside from your elbow, it shouldn't be hard to discern what is suspect and what is legit.

Even at that, when you make a change to your machine (for good or ill), take responsibility for your action(s) and deal. If you don't know enough, take a class or contact someone who knows how to handle it. There is NO magic "spyware detector" program out there. I didn't post in here to defend what I use... I just offered an opinion based on my experience. Feel free to use whatever you want.
