Ad-aware and Spybot are good, I also purchased
another spybot remover recommended by efnet.

But as others have suggested, going off the mainstream
OS is better.

Surfing using Mozilla or Firebird from my Solaris box
works like a champ and has popup blocking to boot.

If you really want to surf sites with Quicktime/Flash/etc
surf from a Linux box instead.
