Re: The Swiss Army Knife of cell phones - Video Phones
said by carlini7:In some places, a video phone is prohibited. Schools, Fitness Centers, etc. many are not allowing them for a variety of reasons. I refer to them as a Swiss Army Knife Cell phones. I don't need games, music, and cameras just a phone. Most people have Internet-capable phones and they don't even use that feature.
Being prohibited.. can ya blame them. Strip club guys beaming pictures back to their buddies to post on the web. And stupid people doing all sorts of dumb stuff like the camera peepers. and we all know people that have those phones are all 100 % honest.
Internet capable phones are funny. For the price and for the use you get they are worthless. Another distraction for people. Momma bidding on ebay while driving her kid to school. Ohhh boy what a weird weird civilization we have become. -- This package does not contain a winner...
I agree. I saw prototype phones from a Korean company (manufacturer) about 2 years ago. They were not camera phones but had capability of downloading a 2 hour movie and able to pick up TV (with a little card inserted - like a memory stick only for TV reception).
Many people (IT types that MUST have the latest PDA/MP3/cell phone) who would have been first adopters of those phones are still laid off or underemployed so they are targeted teens to "be the first one" to send pics of their boy or girl firends to others.
No one is going to buy something they are restricted to use.
I don't know if the limitations are in the cell phones or what but - if you could get them to use mpeg4 128Kbit for the medium - The video is quite good - certainly good enough to just talk to your girlfriend or parents while out of town or something
Check out cspan.org - they use 128Kbit real/wimp I think they are basically mpeg4 the streams are pretty good if you ask me
