Which is why I left...

It just amazes me how cable subscriber growth is continuing. After 2 years as a CC HSI customer I jumped ship for the much cheaper VoL the second they deployed an RT in my 'hood. And as I face yet ANOTHER CATV price increase (just had 2 last year and 1 the year before that) this coming Feb., I'm on the Dish Network free HD box waiting list. The day they install is the day I say bye to CC forever. But again, looking at subscriber growth I'm part of a tiny minority of disgrunted CATV and cable HSI customers who actually jump ship rather than just complain but continue to write the cable pig their ever increasing check amounts.

Dish just sent me my price increase warning. Cable is not the only ones pigging out.

What's the Dish Network free HD box? Where do I sign up??:D

The price increase I saw for the top 100 was $1. Comcast has raised my rates over $15 over the past 2 years and now wants more...on top of them already being more than DBS.

A $1-$2 increase every few years which is what type of increase we see with DN is reasonable. 3 increases amounting to double digit percentage hikes in 2 years is IMHO not.

The free 811 box which also includes on OTA HD tuner is for new subs and is shown on the promotion page »www.dishnetwork.com/content/getd···ex.shtml The only requirement is 12 month contract for their $10/mo or $110/yr HD tier. I don't know what an upgrade charge would be for current subs. Because of the free box promotion the 811 box is in short supply...typically a 4 week wait.

DN is currently locking new customers who sign up at the old rates through 1/2005.

Makes me want to quit Dish to become a new customer. Point being, they don't do squat for you once you're in. But if you're out...

Before I was with CC, I had DN and was treated well in the form of no price increases and them adding content pretty regularly. They also had decent upgrade deals for current customers.

But everywhere has those come-on ads. Look at Comcast. $19 digital cable, $19 HSI for a whole year for DSL customers, $200 credit if you're a DBS customer...but once they have you it's less content, less channels and higher prices, higher prices, higher prices...forever.

Whether it be DTV or DN you get more and pay less...now and in the future.

i thought DISHNETWORK wasn't going to do a price increase until 2005? guess they want a bigger piece of the pie too.

As I mentioned earlier, the increases are $1-$3 depending on the package. New signups get locked in at the old price through at least the end of the year. The increases represent about a 3%-4% increase...better than the 13% hike I got with Comcast last year...and they're coming back for another 5% this year.
