Don't ask how I know this....

...but SBC will offer the 1.5 -6 package for $44.95 starting on 2/2. ...upto 9000 feet from CO or RT.

There is no 3MB package. SBC service level for the 6MB package is 3MB. If you get less than 3, you can complain and they will bump you back to the the 1.5 package at the 1.5 price....anything over 3 and you meet their standard for the $44.95 1.5 - 6 package.

The $26.95 package will go back to $29.95.

I think I will stick to my 8000 down and 992 up with Optimum which has only been out 2 times in the almost 3 years I have had it. I went thru the whole SBC deal and it had more down times then it had up times. And all the speed on Optimum is only $44.95 .... Optimum ROCKS!!!!

The package you on is 384-1.5...so if you're getting higher than 384, you meet the service level standard for SBC.

I'd keep Optimum too. But in my area that is not an option. It's SBC or Comcrap. It's kinda' like picking between getting your arm chopped off or losing an eye....I'd like to pick neither. But SBC is lesser of the two evils....atleast for broadband.

Christ you make it sound like getting broadband is painful. Just be glad you aren't stuck with dial-up as your only option like many do.

Have you tried posting in the Ameritech forum. If your lines can sustain 1.5Mbps then we can helpl get you bumped up.

SBC offers DSL in Connecticut. But Optimum is the better service by far. I don't use newsgroups so I don't care about the news server. Everyone says they have problems with email but I have never had a problem with mine. People speak of getting capped but it really depends on the office in your area. Local Cablevision doesn't care how much upload bandwidth you use and usually they block certain ports to prevent you from running a web server and an FTP server. They don't seem to do this in my area because I run both with no problems. I have had the same IP ever since I have signed up and activated my service.

I agree with that. But I'm also glad to see the DSL/cableco's at leat stepping in the right direction. I'm constantly hooking up networks and getting complaints when the 500K/1 Mbps maxes out cause of several users.

More is always better provided then don't cap it too badly.

I think eventually we'll see the decent speeds and services liek VoiP, HDTV or DVD quality video. Most of the research in the Networking world is toward those goals, and progress has been steady on them. We may just have 2 wait.

And when we get that fiber pipe we can all come back to the forums and bitch about how slow it is

No doubt... we're paying $29.95 a month and getting 384/128!

What gives? Tomorrow we're calling to upgrade to 1-6 mbps if possible..
