2 edits | Happy Qwest Customer I just got re-hooked up with qwest after hearing they were upping their speeds to 1.5Mbps/1Mbps on february 7th for the same $28/month line charge + 6.99 qwest.net broadband basic isp charge. Hells yeah. Formerly 640/256 for close to $50 a month. Now only $34.99 a month. 1 mb upload is crazy for that price.
These are up-to speeds, like up to 1.5mbps and up to 1 mbps. If your line can pull-it you will see the speeds. |

Actually the spec on adsl is 860kbps on the upload and after you add in PPPoE/A overhead you'll be lucky to see 700kbps and that would be under optimum conditions. -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth |

 | Ill take 700k up!!! I had @Home in 1997 with no upload caps and that was a hoot getting 3 meg up and down. I was lucky and got in on a broadband trial for my company and they were picking up the tab for US West (now Qwest) 768k up/down DSL. Reliability wise, DSL has it over cable for stability. Even with no cable caps back then my DSL @ 768 was just a touch slower overall.
Now with upload caps at Cox HSI being 256k, you can have 6 meg down available, but if you max out the upload, you essentially bring your down to the up speed!! These download speed increases are pretty much a scam unless they match with upload increases.
Rule of thumb, if you can't get 1/2 the up as your down, unless you just surf the web or get e-mails, you are NOT going to be able to fully use your download speeds.
I'll take ~1.2 meg down and ~700k up on DSL over 3 meg down and 256k up on cable any freaking day of the week, especially since I am potentially subnetted with 1019 other people sharing the line!!!
IMHO, the DSL providers need to market the differences to consumers much more effectively. |

I don't think that's true. Qwest has been offering standard ADSL with 1Mbps upload for years. All the ADSL modems I've seen in recent times also support up to 1Mbps upload (such as the Actiontec 1524 Qwest currently gives out). |

Nothing couild be "less robust" than Charter's 2.0/128. If I lived in SBC territory, I would switch in a heart beat. And to top it off, the DSL choice in my area is Verizon.
