bored_in_nh : Oh joy. I get to say it again like I did in the other bundling thread. I'll see if I can put it a little differently this time for entertainment value.

You want phone service? Go to the phone company.

You want TV? I happen to like DTV better than Comcast, but in either case, TV is their business, so go with them.

You want internet? Get an ISP!

If you want donuts, you don't go to a hardware store. Verizon sucks as an ISP. So does Comcast. I had DirectTVDSL, and they were pretty good, but not as good as a real ISP.

I pay a good 35% more doing it this way than I would if I had bundled services, but I get what I pay for. In New Hampshire, we have a thing called Common Sense. We know that if you buy a pair of Wal Mart boots, they will only last 6 months. They will cost 25% what a good pair of Redwings do, but that pair of Redwings will last 7 - 8x longer. So ... do I pay $40.00 every six months to tromp around in cow doodoo, mud and snow, and at the end of 3 years have it cost me $240.00 or do I pay $120.00 one time, and tromp through the same amount of cow doodoo, mud and snow? Same amount of doodoo, half the money. Hmmmm.

Too bad our neighbors in Vermont can't have Common Sense. Gee ... I want to run for president ... I think I'll seal all my records, so right from the start I'll look like I have something to hide. Then, I'll act like a pro wrestler when I get my butt kicked. pffffft.
--
amazing stuff, this internet

Too many people take whatever junk their CATV foists on them and never push for good stuff. I know it takes a lotta time and energy to keep up with this stuff and even more to fight your official locally-licensed provider, but I gotta believe if more people screamed SOMETHING might happen.

Example: Pioneer makes great little hi-def box with DVI out that Time Warner doles out like gold and absolutely will not give you a manual for (something about "voiding the warranty," seriously). So most folks get the horrid old SA box and think, "Gee, my hi-def is kinda weak, maybe I'll get DTV." So they still make work for themselves.

I say wherever you are, whomever or whatever you have, push like a crazy person for the best THEN switch if you hafta.
