Comcast SMTP not needed here?

I am on Comcast and am able to send using my own SMTP server address but only if I check "My server requires authentication"

This is not SSL and still on port 25. Is this due to my new host suppoting this -as I had to use CC's SMTP with my previous host?

I just switched my host to free www.1and1.com hosting

The problem is if Comcast were to block outbound port 25, you would not be able to use your own SMTP server, only theirs, unless your hosting service accepted connections for SMTP on a port other than 25.

I think that www.pair.com accepted SMTP connections on port 2525, for example.
