Check and see if a dependant application or .dll is causing it to hang for that long. What is your netlogon service set to?

Also, are you on a domain, using a login script ot batch file to map drives or set resources/drive?

What is your Service Pack & hotfix level for XP? do you have all the necessary permissions & administrator access set for the server service set both locally and on the server?

No. The machine exists in a workgroup.

XP Pro SP1, all critical updates applied to date.

The "Server" service is set to run in the context of the Local System account.. Aside from that, could you be more specific?
