Webmail/Spam

Is anyone here familiar with the spam folder located at our webmail account? I've found messages in it that definitely aren't spam. I use outlook express to send/receive all my emails, and until a few days ago, I thought I was actually getting all my emails, spam or not. Now the only way I can get them is by logging in to webmail and moving them from the spam folder to the inbox.

Someone at DSLi told me its because of the new spam filters they put in place (reverse DNS) a few weeks ago. Perhaps the folks at DSLi should read about AT&T's problem using this and try to get it right!

If anyone from DSLi is reading this, I supposedly have an open service ticket on your end to have this spam filter removed from my inbox so that I can decide what is spam and what isn't. Shouldn't DSLi have at least informed its customer base about what they were doing? I was told that messages stay in the Spam folder for about 14 days and then are deleted. Since I just checked a few days ago, how many valid emails did I lose since you implemented this new filter?

I don't use Webmail, I use Outlook.

There are very few instances in which I will use my DSLi.com e-mail account because of its unreliability. Notifications for replied messages on this web site are sent to one of my @dsli.com accounts. However, a few people replied to my posts here within the last few days and I have not seen one notification. I just checked Webmail in the off-chance they were stuck in a spam folder there, but no dice.

FWIW, I posted a message here a week or so ago stating that I tried to send a message to another DSLi.com e-mail account, using the DSLi.com SMTP server, and the message bounced back after four failed attempts at delivery. Go figure.

My point: If you're looking for a reliable e-mail service, look elsewhere. Something ain't right at DSLi.com when it comes to mail delivery.

Sorry I wasn't able to provide more help.

Scott,

We sent out an e-mail to all customers, letting them know about the "spam" folder, and that you can open a ticket to have your filter removed.

I'm thinking of doing this myself, because some of my legit mailing lists get thrown in there.

JohnQ,

It doesn't matter if you use Outlook. These are server-side filters, that will catch spam and throw it in a "spam" folder on the server.

You need to periodically check the spam folder through webmail.

Elias,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately, I never got that email from DSLi.

Can you verify for me that I have an open ticket to remove the filter from my mailbox? The service ticket # is 390791000.

thanks,

Scott

I'm aware of that. My comment was just an FYI for the previous poster. Also, I mentioned that I looked in webmail and found nothing. In fact, there wasn't even a spam folder... assumably because nothing had been trapped yet identified as "spam."

Thanks for the heads-up since I never received the e-mail either. FWIW, I still have a received an e-mail notification from your earlier reply.

Why can't we have some access to the filter for our own account? We should be able to add emails that were marked as spam erroneously to the "whitelist."

Pretty sure you do, but to what degree I don't know, I don't use the mail at all. This was explained in a post by darkcom, but has apparently scrolled off the server.

I just received an e-mail stating that we can't remove the filters anymore.

But there is a simple workaround for POP3 users.

Create a second account in your mail client that logs in as:

username-spam@domain.com.

Where username is the first part of your e-mail address.

The password will be the same as the one to your mail account.

Elias, here´s a suggestion. If I remember well, the accounts could be accessed through either IMAP or POP. Why don't you encourage your customers to configure their email clients for IMAP access, that way whoever wants to can subscribe to their SPAM mail folder and see it without having to log into the web site?

This is all from what I recall about your email system. I have never used it.

Elias,

Thanks, that workaround worked for me - saves me from logging in to webmail now.

But the bigger question is, since DSLi knows there is a problem with this spam filter, why is it still being used?

Well, we are suggesting that.

However, I personally would not recommend it.

DSLi e-mail accounts have a 10MB limit. Using IMAP encourages people to leave their e-mails on the server.

Then we have people that call saying their mailbox is full, and we have to explain how to remove messages from the server, etc.

It becomes more of a hassle for the people who aren't saavy.

No, there is no access by the user...although in "Help" it says it should be in the options. It is not.

Well, it used to be there, but I guess no more.

Ok, now I'm really starting to get pissed at DSLi. I just logged into webmail because I didn't get an email I was expecting to get, and now I have a new folder there called "mail" which all of my new messages are residing in. When I send/receive in Outlook, I don't get them.

Elias - what the heck is going on???
can you look into this for me, or do I need to call and speak to someone in tech support?

I haven't experienced that problem. I suggest going into your "mail" folder, selecting all of the messages using the little box in the upper left hand corner, and then transfer them into your inbox. If that is successful, try to download them using Outlook. If that is successful, then I'd go into webmail and delete the "mail" folder.

Then, send yourself a message and make sure it gets delivered into your inbox by checking your webmail. If that occurs, and you can download your e-mail utilizing Outlook, hopefully you're done.

Scott,

JohnQ beat me to the punch.

I had the exact same suggestion.

I have not seen this, and I have 3 e-mail accounts on the server, and all have been fine.

I deleted the mail folder and sent myself a test message. When I refreshed the folder list, the mail folder reappeared with the test message in it (twice).

I added another email account to outlook in the mean time with username-mail as the account name, and that works of to receive messages from the mail folder.

I will definitely be on the phone with tech support tomorrow to get this fixed.

Yes, please do so, and keep us posted.

That is definitely not normal. Maybe some sort of rule got screwed-up somewhere for your account.
