There is a point but my post was cut off...
Advanced Micro Devices processor software update released on August 29 2001.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMD K7 Processor
Why is this update showing up on my PC today? I use an AMD 1600 XP+ Processor. What does this update do? I AM THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE!! ~ Courtney Love |

 1 edit | The update includes support for AMD Power Now! IIRC. |

| Is this like a modified version of the original release?
I don't understand why it says 2001 when this update was never seen before? In device manager, it says the driver version of my processor is 2001 also? -- I AM THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE!! ~ Courtney Love |

| Man your right Epyon9283!
It does add AMD Power Now! features to the processor. I have WinXP Pro SP1a with ALL critical patches. Also all driver updates: FROM 3RD PARTY VENDORS (ATI+Creative Labs) don't use Microsoft Update for that! lol ....
I just find it weird that....on a Sunday, in February of 2004, it detects a new update that was released in 2001.
THE ORIGINAL VALUES BEFORE UPDATE:
PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ DATE: 7/1/2001 FILE VER: 5.1.2535.0 ================================== NEW UPDATE:
PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ DATE: 8/29/2001 FILE VER: 5.1.2600.28 ===================================
In addition the driver file details were changed:
ORIGINAL VALUES: ================ processr.sys VER: 5.1.2600.1106
NEW UPDATED VALUES: =================== amdk7.sys VER: 5.1.2600.28 -- I AM THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE!! ~ Courtney Love |

1 edit | Also, I'm sorry if this supposed "NEW" update confused anyone.
It was new to me.... and very unusual how it wondered onto Windows Update 3+ years later!
Cool update info on my processor.
If anyone else ran into this update yesterday, today or tomorrow, let me know! -- I AM THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE!! ~ Courtney Love |

Have you noticed anything...different? |

3 edits | It has the same date but the file version on your looks like my OLD version. (check my earlier post above to compare)
You can always roll-back the driver to the previous "original" setting....but for a file that's only 32K in size, I would not 4see any problems all it does is replace a couple files and edits the registry.
You could even just try updating it DIRECTLY through the device manager properties for that window you posted? "UPDATE DRIVER"
If your really worried it may mess something up (I was but took the plunge and all worked out well) do a system restore check point.
I never did that, but doesn't the system restore program do that with each Microsoft patch/driver install?
The ONLY thing I find odd is your driver DATE version... it matches the NEW version date that is showing up on Windows Update....but the file on your system is DEFINITELY older than the update. Mine shows new values.
Good luck!
EDIT: SYSTEM PERFORMANCE will not be slowed down if that's what your wondering? If anything, everything remains EXACTLY the same if not faster. It can ONLY be beneficial when you use that feature. -- I AM THE CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSE!! ~ Courtney Love |

 dadkinsCan you do Blu?Premium,MVM join:2003-09-26 Hercules, CA kudos:18 | Well, I went for it...seems ok. As for the "PowerNow", my laptop is cruising at 490MHZ right now(just looking at this forum), if I start a game or something that requires more power, it snaps up to 1400MHZ instantly.
The "new" driver has the same date as before but the version is 5.1.2600.28 now.
Oh well, Rock n Roll! |
|
 | reply to Dustyn before the update windows would show my XP2400 as running 2168Mhz OC of course now its 2000Mhz. Maybe a calculation problem maybe now. Hmmmm |
|
 | reply to Dustyn Yeah, I've been told not to update "drivers" from microsoft. |
|
 2kmaroThinkPremium,ExMod 1 BC join:2000-07-11 ColossalCave | reply to dadkins The version on mine is 5.1.2600.1152 - dated 12/17/2002. So, I would think that .2600.28 would be a later version, yet a visit to Microsoft does not offer me an update. | Now this is interesting!
Just after installing Microsoft's AMD-K7 processor update that was released onto Windows Update in February 2004...it turns out that the update is over 2 years old! However the file IS IN FACT a NEWER update to the original driver that comes with XP PRO.
Get this:
Another processor update has been released AGAIN... and wandered onto Windows Update during a routine scan. The driver update (although old, but not as old as the first update) has newer file versions and is more up to date.
THE ORIGINAL VALUES BEFORE UPDATE: (DRIVERS FROM XP PRO CD) =========================================================== PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ DATE: 7/1/2001 FILE VER: 5.1.2535.0
THE SUNDAY FEBRUARY 2004 LATE UPDATE: ===================================== PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ DATE: 8/29/2001 FILE VER: 5.1.2600.28
SURPRISE!! ANOTHER ONE! Sunday, March 7, 2004 ============================================= PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ DRIVER DATE: 12/17/2002 5.1.2600.1152
amd7k.sys (a new file) has been introduced into the details tab to add the power managment..registry entries are also corrected.
I personaly took the plunge AGIAN... updated, and all is functioning well! The file size is TINY! 35KB (compressed/approx size)

1 edit | Old yes.... but newer than the current versions we had!
In the ADVANCED file version tab, I'm noticing that they are sp2 driver releases...or something like that. PRE-XPSP2 driver.
This is weird. Any luck with install?
