Re: Broadvox Direct Pre-Launch Announced !

said by jgwilliams:
...We do lock the device if you bring your own. I know that we lock the Administration of the device and from what I have heard this can limit your access to the free port as well. If that is the case you may want to keep your owned device for other uses and have Broadvox or any paid provider your signup with send you a device at no cost.
Jeff,

This has been discussed before, without a clear answer. I have my own SPA configured with VoicePulse on line one. While locked from "administration", I am still able to access the "advanced" tab on user line two and configure it for FWD with no problem whatever. Is your configuration different for some reason, or is it just the fact that someone truly in the know has not responded to this issue with finality? This is an important issue to those of us with our own SPA's since completely locking the second line is obviously unnecessary.

I understand your concern, and I think the answer is that someone in the know has not addressed this. I will forward this question on to one of our lead engineers and Sipura.

Do Not Disturb is controlled in the portal today as well as what you are calling Multi-Ring, which I THINK is what you are calling our friends and family feature.
Multiring allows you to ring multiple locations at the same time. If BVD had this feature, I could configure it so that when someone called my BVD line, it would ring my BVD line and my cell phone simultaneously.

Friends and Family numbers are akin to Vonage's "virtual numbers."

Yes, I am aware on the multi-ring. We do not have that however I did not state myself correctly. When I mentioned Friends and Family I actually meant to say Find-Me Follow-Me. This is a rules based forwarding, and does not ring multiple locations at the same time, today; it rings in sequence.

Both have their value. I do like the "press 1 to accept this call" idea to prevent issues with other voicemail systems picking up. Can you throw that into the "feature request" pot?

Jeff,
I don't know if you already have this somewhere on your web site but I think it would save alot of headaches in the long run. Have a network status and systems status page that get updated when things are working and when things are not working.
Thanks again for answering my questions in IM last night. I think you guys have a fairly good balance in calling plans for local and international rates (for the two countries my mom will be calling more frequently under your service). Maybe add to the feature request pile, that is to have like a 2 or 3 country list where a customer can get even better rates for those 2 or 3 countries when the calls there reach a certain dollar amount or minutes amount for a year period. But if they need to call the other countries its just the regular rate you have now or just instead doing this to two or three countries do it for all international calls. Just an interesting concept.

I have given some thought to the international call discount idea, I would not be surprised if this shows up in the future.

With regards to network status, within the customer portal we will be proactive in announcing network conditions that impact service performance for our customers.

@sandata.com.in-addr.

Jeff,

If for some reason my internet connection is unavailable, is it possible to send calls to a backup number or use 'find me - follow me' rules? Last week I lost my internet connection for 30 minutes and calls to my Broadvox number resulted in a fast busy signal.

Your inbound calls should have gone to voice mail if your connection is down. Additionally yes we have the ability to accept a fall back number, this will be available to customers in the near future. In the meantime you can set your find me service to an alternate number as well.

The local number to customer care is 216-373-4640. You can also reach customer care toll free at 1-800-273-9134. The number you have listed does not ring to customer care, or our division for that matter.

With regards to being a 'beta business', I would hardly consider it to be. If you are in the area you are more than welcome to stop into our offices, and time permitting even receive a tour of the facility.

Jeff,

Two questions:

1. Do you have any updates on the softphone plans?

2. Have the international rates been finalized? I see Iridium still listed @ $0.30/minute which is quite unheard of.

There are no soft phone updates as of yet. Things like this would be announced on the site. As it stands this is not something that we will launch with and I do not even have a guess as to when it will be released.

Regarding International rates they have been final. There are thousands of entries however in the International table so it is possible that some rates could be a little off or have room for adjustment. If you are a subscriber you can always open a ticket with our customer care center about the rates. When doing so please include the country, and locality, and dial pattern that you are referring to. They would need that information when issuing a rate review request to our rating people. When we receive a rate review request they would first verify that the rate is in fact as it should be, and then if it is examine the rates available in the market place in comparison to our costs. If there is room they will issue an adjusted rate, otherwise as with anyone else we could just be a higher in some areas, and lower in others.

I don't have a date for you, whenever we change the routing to the production environment. It will be very soon, that much I know; perhaps a week or two. You will not transmit name until we begin listing the residential subscribers in directory assistance, this will also start soon as we already do this on the enterprise side.

Which part, the name or the number? The number will be displayed before we launch. the 23rd. is not our official launch date, just another trial. The launch will follow very soon, we just want to do some testing prior to that.
