JEJE 's BACK BABYPremium join:2000-12-15 East Orange, NJ 1 edit | SAME ol Chit! Nothing s gonna come out of this except, the arguments of " My Cable is better than your DSL" BLA BLA BLA........... Been going on since I first came to this site. We all know what the obvious is, so why even continue to ask the loaded DSL or Cable ?,?
Why not compare the DSL industry VS Verizon and their high price for LOW speed offerings, there's a valid argument.
As it stands right now, CABLE is the front runner. Look at the speeds »/archive You don't see any MAINSTREAM DSL provider in the top 5, and you will never see it this year or 5 years from now.
I'm all for DSL, but I'm a CABLE guy now, and looking at my speed and the price I'm paying, I say, that NOT ONE US DSL or Cable Provider can match OOL ANYTIME soon.
SO, Instead of this, you should be lobbying your CABLE providers to match the OOL speed for the price you are paying.

 | When adsl 2.0 hits we will see. SBC is betting the farm on dsl. Now that they give 6.0 /608 for $45 the heat will be on. Not to mention what is ool policy on running servers and bandwidth ussage? |

Me living in an OOL area isn't the subject, as I know if I move things will be differnet. The thing with SBC DSL is that not everyone can get that GREAT speed, with Cable it's global, you get what speed you pay for. There's no comparing there.
My problem is with people still trying to make a valid arguemnt between DSL and Cable. You CAN'T! I had DSL at 1.5/384. I was like 7,000 feet away, and I got like 1267-1300/280-300 What avbout those people that are like 10,000 feet away? Now I have a 10/1 connection, and on my best try I can get 9580/980... DSL is still way off of my OOL. OOL is the #1 HOME ISP in terms of SPEED, and that's ALL THAT MATTERS to SUBSCRIBERS....
Other cable users should be up in arms that their providers are short changing them, when they know damn well they can get the same speed we get, just the providers don't want to implememnt it.
Of course I wish all pricing would reflect the global standard, but this is the USA.
Once OOL starts their price changes in 2005, we will see, but I'm sure OOL isn't DUMB enough to jack up prices for a service that's growing faster than they even expected.

 | reply to JE I just wish I had both to choose from.
This is a no-DSL-zone here, and the total lack of competition means Comcast has no incentive to be reasonable about a thing. Everyone says competition is good. I say "bring it on!" |

Just because 6mbit is OFFERED doesnt mean your line can GET those speeds. with cable, whatever they offer is what you can get if you're in their area. Distance continues to be the big thing hampering DSL. you dont see any cable companies running scared do you? -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth |

| reply to JE SBC's Expert Plus speeds (at their current 6000/608 provisioned speeds) are faster than almost all US cable providers except Optimum Online, which serves a relatively small footprint. In many of the urban and suburban areas that SBC services, they have deployed RT technology to make those speeds available to decent percentage of their customers.
SBC now has what I consider to be the best approach. Rock bottom pricing for very respectable 1500/256 DSL, and reasonable pricing on very FAST speeds.

recrum join:2002-09-10 Akron, OH | reply to JE No it's not what it is all about. It's DSL vs Cable on the whole. Let's face it OOL may be cable but they really are in a league of their own. And no, I'm not trying to make a valid argument about DSL, I've been a Road Runner customer for five years now. |

I really don't know if you just started out with OOL or not, but price increases have already been felt on OOL, and will more than likely continue.. When I began my service, the price was $29.99/mo.. Ive seen it go first to $34.99, then $39.99, and now $44.99.. I started my OOL service in 11/2000.. So, 3 increases within less than 3 years.. As far as 'OOL being dumb enough' -- if they continue to experience subscriber growth, and subscriber loss is at a minimum, there's no reason why they wouldn't raise prices..
