Cable > WISP > DSL

I've had it all. I thought Cox Cable was pathetic until I tried the local WISP which turned out to be a third party turn key outfit out of Georgia. I paid for terrible, absolutely horrible, and then no service for nine months before I ordered SBC-Yahoo DSL. SBC does a fantastic job. On the other hand Yahoo is a befitting word for a bloated Hydra that hijacks the desktop, corrupts programs it shouldn't touch, fouls the registry and does not allow removal.

I learned these wonderful secrets when I installed it on a test machine and then tried to uninstall it. I am certainly not concerned about the test machine. It's turned off and Yahoo is no where near the active systems. I like DSL very much, however, when the price reaches $40 a month I'll go back to dialup.

As for Cox cable, it is a farce. The prices for basic cable here have increased more than 50% in four years; the basic programming is mostly free or in-the-wild feeds; they misinform customers about certain analog programs. I think it's very strange that I can see every scrambled HBO picture on my analog TV when it is "only available as a digital subscription." Here's a news flash. Check with any big dish digital provider anywhere in the US and you too will learn that HBO, MAX and SHOW TIME ARE available as a analog feed at a cost of about $7 a month.

Cox recently took a swipe at Dish-TV with their smarmy martial arts ad. I never lost a signal when the dog sneezed, and I didn't have to adjust the dish every day. What Cox doesn't tell you is that a satellite signal delivered directly to the home is far superior to cable. It always was and it always will be. Cox also doesn't tell you that the digital cable you are paying $100 a month for comes directly from the same signal that Dish TV users receive, or that the current TV ad is their attempt to kill SBC by giving away a broadband connection. Before you sign the dotted line be sure you know what it costs to buy the modem ($100), who long he special runs, and how much the account will cost when the special ends ($50- $100 depending upon where you live).

Someone needs to start a "Make Cable Play Fair" website to explain to the rest of the world what Cox Cable and their competition is doing to the rest of the us -- while *we the people* foot the bill.

Be careful who you vote for, you might hire him.

Why would you install anything from SBCYahoo? You don't need any of it to get online so I say no thanks and chuck the CD out the window.

Why would I do that??? I deliberately installed it on my TEST machine for a client. . After experiencing the net results I advised my client against installing it. Personally, I don't want it; I don't need it and I will certainly not recommend it to anyone that I know. It is worse than SBC software, if that is possible.
