Re: SBC DSL and the FUSF quote: come on guys and gals... its 6 bucks, cheer up
I think very few would complain about paying $49.95 for these awesome Expert Plus speeds. It's still a rockin' stellar value, even with the FUSF charge. However, we just don't like hidden fees, especially ones that are a whopping 13% of the advertised price. -- \\ROB - a part of the SCB local network |

Say huh? I'm saying they're charging $29.95 and the fee is $1.84, but they could have just charged $31.79 by burying the fee in the price of the service. You pay the same amount either way! |

I see what you're referring to but I don't get your point. Sorry. |

I dont agree that 13% is a whopping percentage of anything, especially when u put it into context. And how do u figure its a hidden fee if we are here discussing it? |

my bad tonydi....
I thought you were wondering where this fee was stated. |

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | reply to tymfdc I definately wouldn't call this consumer friendly... Especially if the following is true:
It is unclear to us how customers on faster speeds should be required by SBC to "contribute" more to USF than the slow speed customers, when the back-end USF cost is fixed per circuit.
This would state that since I have one line into my house, I pay one price, regardless of DSL speed. I would obviously pay more for say a physical T1, as it is physically considered to be multiple lines. |

It should really be called $50.82 plan. It is actually tricking the user to believe it costs less. I do not see why it should be a seperate item. Do they have a seperate item for the electricity they have to pay? |

My understanding is: You will pay a FUSF in any case. Older lower one or newer higher one. But, I do not have SBC so it might not be accurate. |

Looks like it based on this page (link to the $99/mo static plan, see bottom under the *): »www01.sbc.com/DSL_new/content/1,,79,00.html?
Any "new" service after 2/1 gets it, it would seem. |

I'm guessing that it's a separate fee to make it easier to break out the actual amount charged. The telcos have to fill out forms detailing the fees collected. Look at your phone bill, your cell bill or your power bill, all sorts of fees and taxes are itemized. Since all of those things get paid to various govt depts, it's gotta be easier to keep track that way. |

But FUSF is not paid to government. It stays with the Telco to provide the services sactioned by the government. They can easily do the accounting internally. User does not need to know. This is added seperately as a way of jacking up the price. Many Telco actually collecting more than they need to collect. |

Just another reason to leave my little 1.5/256 line alone......:D
No matter how tempting something is, no matter how carefully one reads the fine print, there's always something that eventually comes to light that can be considered a *gotcha*
I wonder how many of the people who rushed to get their upgrades at the beginning of the month would have gone through with it, had they known that the price(s) they would be actually paying were different than the quoted prices.
Sure $6 per month isn't much but consider that $6 multiplied by 12 months equals $72 more per year added to your bill than you expected....
Interesting to say the least. |
|
en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | It will not encourage me to upgrade on DSL... On the otherside... since the LECs know they can now collect this outside of thier billing, and its fixed by speed (shouldn't it be by circuit?), I'm sure we will be seeing higher speeds |

amazing1 join:2004-02-23 San Francisco, CA | Whats really baffling me is, why doesn't SBC state the FUSF fee amounts (like $1.84/$2.35/$5) instead of just stating that there is an FUSF fee associated with each new plan.
Having the FUSF fee hidden in small print at the bottom of the DSL plan pages is deceptive enough. Not mentioning the Fee amount to me is like major theft. |
|
 | reply to only me I am paying 44.00 a month, does this mean I'll be paying the Expert Plus 1.5-6 $5.83?
I don't see or understand why some of you are complaining about it. I know it isnt a tax and what not. But with everything going on these days their are alot of different costs on everything.
Give all other ISP's sometime, I will bet ya they will find some unknown loop hole to charge customers for their service.
For 4 years I had Charter Comm. They were the biggest ripoff. Let me explain this if you think SBC is bad, wait till you hear this.
I first signed up for $80.00 a month for 1mbit/256kbps + Cable Modem Lease Fee = $5.00, and + Cable Access Fee + $10.00. I was paying that for 2 years. Cable Access Fee? LOL. I was getting ripped off because I didn't have their cable TV service. Like I said after 2 years of paying that they then dropped the Cable Access Fee, guess they didn't want someone to find out and get sued.
Then my speed went up to 2Mbit/128kbps for $40.00+ thus still paying for a modem lease fee.
Hence the modem lease fee wasnt a tax but in fact paying for 4 years = $10.00 add that up plus the cable access fee, wow. hehehe, I am the only one that didn't come out on top.
So if Charter can find hidden ways to charge more, then any business can. Case and point.
I made the change over to SBC 1 1/2 weeks ago and was the best change ever with great speeds. I will never go back to Charter after being ripped off by them.
All I can say is, One word, Thank God For SBC. You Guys Rock. End Quote. Bottom line. -- Like My DSL!!! |
