What kind of modem are you using? Some modems can tell you if you log into them, like for example the gnet BB0060.

Your first hop ping indicates that you are on interleave. If you were on fastpath, the first hop ping would be between 5-15ms.

Hmm I knew it. Going to try and call Bell Tomorow see if they can take me off it.

Any Tips?

Thanks

Taking interleave off might destabilize your line, depends how bad it is, or how far from the CO you are. Were your 1st hop pings always like that?

Im not sure, I never really did a test like this before. As for how far I am form the Co, im not very far at all. Maybe 1-2min Driving, im pretty close.

Is there a reason you want it turned off or are you just ping obsessed?

If you want to find out with out calling bell.
Borrow a friends Alcatel Home Speed Touch and hook it up and see if your on Interleave or not

brianviper, ou can't go by how far a drive away the closest central office is. I say this because I am closer to the central office in my neighborhood by one adjascent street than my friend but my friend is hooked up to that CO while I am not. That CO is less than 1 KM away. I'm hooked up to one about 5 KM away. And yeah, my friend is on fastpath and has a 3 Mbps capable line but I'm on interleave and only get a connection of about 1600 Mpbs.

The reason why I want it off is because I thought it effected wether or not I get the 3mb Upgrade. I have have not seen the upgrade yet. So im wondering if thats the reason why they have not upgraded me??

Also I do play online games and it would be nice to have lower ping BUT I rather have the 3mb and live with my pings now.

Thanks

You would have to check your line stats to see if your line is capable of the upgrade. Sometimes they do put people on Interleave for no particular reason.

Ok when I type in "adsl Show Pref" this is what i get,

Downstream :
Noise Margin : 33.0 dB
Attenuation : 19.0 dB
Output Power : 19
Upstream :
Noise Margin : 11.0 dB
Attenuation : 19.0 dB
Output Power : 9

Is there anything else that i can type to get more info on my line Speed??

Thanks

Here is more info....

--> adsl show rate
Data Path : Interleaved
Downstream Bit Rate : 1728 Kbps
Upstream Bit Rate : 384 Kbps

So I am on Interleave.....Would this be stopping my Upgrade to 3mb?

Using shorter rj-45(Cat5e UTP cable) isn't going to help anything as the cable does not loose quality under 100 Metres.

You should use rj-11 (phone cord) no longer then 6 feet (the shorther, the better).

Sorry I ment I used a Shorter Phone Cord and that was the result I got. But I am also using like a 100ft Network Cable also.

But how are my results? Do u think my line can handle the 3mb? Also because I am on Interleave could that affect why i did not get the 3mb upgrade??

Thanks

First off, find out if you can take fastpath and find out how far you are from the CO and line stats when the bell techies look at the line

They should tell you because when my ISP got back to me they told me I was roughly 5 km from the CO which would be roughly right and they gave me my line stats lncluding noise level.

Unless they put a stinger near you or something, I wouldn't count on the upgrade but miracles do happen

they may have tried to upgrade your line but it couldn't handle it so they put you in interleave and gave you the most speed they could.

Or you line can't support it period.

These are pretty good! almost the same to my 8mbps capable line! Usually crappy lines have very low downstream noise margin (below 8dB), and high attenuation (more than 50dB).

Too bad you don't have an Alcatel modem, to show your maximum attainable rate, and your line occupation. Can you borrow one from someone just for testing?

I dunno what my friend has. I think it May be an Alcatel modem, he is with Bell. I'll have to ask him, but can you please tell me if I do end up getting the modem and it is that kind how I would get that info about my line, that way I can test it quick and give it back to him?

Thanks

Your line is good. I dought they have you on interleave.
Unfortunatly we can't tell you your attainable rate or anything threw those but Noise of 33 and Attenuation of 19db is AMAZING.
