well i have a friend that has a dial up connection... but he connects at 26.4 k. he was wondering if theres a way to tweak it or to speed it up somehow?
to many things can affect dialup as for speed. What operating system does he have? How far from the phone company central office? How is he hooked up to the phone outlet in the wall? How old is the wiring? As far as tweaks for dialup there is not much that will help. My be a few things that can be checked such as how old the drivers are. Sometimes newer ones will help. Sometimes differenmt modems make it connect better. I have seen where a slower connection works better than a faster one. The key is throughput. What has your friend done in order to try to get faster connection?
reply to mdcadet To obtain V.90 speed requires that only a single digital/analog conversion exist between the ISP and your modem. Most likely you phone line has some form of multiplexing that allows the Telco to multiplex customers over a single physical circuit.
