Proxomitron Default Config File

default.zip 5,186 bytes
(default.cfg)
Here is a copy of my default configuration file for Proxomitron. The current setup is what I walked away with from the Proxo review, and some additional learning thereafter.

Obviously I have not included any of the text files used for the Blockfile.

Okay, I have the 'your' default configurations. I was just wondering how do I view it? It is a .cfg file?

I just dl'ed Proxo and I am ready to give it a go.

Thanks again,

cj.

To load my default.cfg file, unzip the contents into a sub-directory of Proxo's location. Before you load mine, make sure you have a backup of yours (default.cfg). Then, within Proxo, choose the File drop down menu and then select Load Config File. Choose mine. If you choose to save the default config file, you will be over-writing yours (ergo, the backup).

Z-X:

I had downloaded Proxo w/o the installer. What do I do just install it into the Program Files folder? Should I create a Proxo folder?

Okay got it. This shall be fun...

Proxo needs no installation in the normal sense. Just copy the contents where you like, and run it from there. Proxo makes no changes to your MS system. You have to set the LAN Proxy yourself... localhost port 8080.

ZX,

Thanks for the config. How much luck have you had with pop-ups? I went to Porn.com (strictly for research purposes of course) and only had minimal success fighting pop-ups.

I am not Z-X either, I went to porn.com and I got pop-ups. I am using Z-X's .cfg file. What gives?

Those are not pop-ups in the ordinary sense. They emulate the same thing Link Central does up top. If you wish to disable such a feature, we can write up a filter that searches for the target="_blank" function which points to a new window. This is "normal" code that is used in the a href tags.

Ok, I wrote up my first script. The bounds are the a href tags ending with a. It looks for the target=_"blank" and removes it, unless you have a bypass in the targetblankAllow list. Now, this is my first script which I cannot even test right now, so it may or may not load properly (do not try merging it, just load it up and test it using the links supplied in the Link Central up top.

You can read about the language here: »www.geocities.com/johnsankey.geo···ech.html .

Make sure Allow for multiple matches is enabled. Again, this script might now work, so you may have to tweak it... or we can tweak it later.

Amazingly, I found this: »website.lineone.net/~pit-stop/pops.cfg.txt . This filter does exist in the default Proxo config, but I have it disabled in my configuration. It already does more simply what I attached.

If you want just enable that in your config.

If you want to try mine, just rename the .txt to .cfg and do not merge it, because I'm not sure where the quotes should be. You may have to enter it manually.

Just wondering... has anyone tried enabling the filter that came with the install (that I had disabled) and tried the web site again?

Z-X,

I'm at work, but will try your script and filter tonight. Thanks!

Not that this makes a difference, but I also went to »www.porno.com. I use PopKi. It killed the pop-ups or whatever that was that died quickly.

One more for PopKi!

This sort of pop-up is the most basic, it is an HTML code. Many many sites use it, WCB even has it in his Links Central pop-up window.

These don't bother me, and so I have it disabled. Although, if no one has replied by the time I get home, I'll test it and reply back.

Haven't tried my code yet, but I enabled the re-use popups and this did not solve the issue. Without testing my code, I sent a message over to the yahoo groups.

This happened before during my review of the app, and someone kindly pointed me the right way. I hope the same will happen again.

Ok, I figured it out... the re-use popups filter has the following in the URL match field:

*clipart*|*animat*|*graphics*|*cgi?*|*clip-art*

I first made a duplicate of it (for backup), added on "(original)" to the name, and went back to the first one and removed: *clipart*|*animat*|*graphics*|*cgi?*|*clip-art* entirely. I went back to the site mentioned and no more pop-ups, gone completely.

Re: Proxo Default Settings

Ok, I figured out how to set the proxy in IE 5.5 while using the proxo help file, and I have DSLr Security forum loading at startup. Works well. I also tried that www.porn.com this time while using 'your' default .cfg file. I had no pop-ups. Is that possible?

I noticed you making changes to the re-use popups filter. I can't find that filter? Did I miss something?...Urgh...

I have to admit I am very determined to learn how to use this program, and even though it does having a steep learning curve I think I can learn it...Lol.

I have been studying your posts and/or threads Z-X, and I wanted to thank you for all of your input, advice and encouragement. I am learning slowly but surely.

I am going to leave these setting as is for the next couple of days and I will contact you with any questions as necessary.

BTW - Should I continue to use hosts? I have ad blocking in there from that edexter site. Big list. I do have my favorites sites in there enabled for a quick start as well.

Thank you,

cj.

While at the site, did you try any of the links? Clicking on the link with my default file you downloaded should open a new browser, because the target function is not being filtered.

In the Web filter section of Proxo, look for "Re-use popup windows". It should be there as that was included in my default config file.

When you find it, dupe it and rename the dupe indicating it is a "backup of the original".

Go back to the original and remove the URL Match line that has this: *clipart*|*animat*|*graphics*|*cgi?*|*clip-art*. Save it, and test out the site again. When you click a link, it should open in the same window now instead of launching a new browser window. (But first make sure you save your default config file and apply the filter - activate it).

But then again, it could really be working for you, and somehow Proxo works slightly differently on both our systems -- which is acceptable.

I am going to leave these setting as is for the next couple of days and I will contact you with any questions as necessary.

Please feel free to get me anytime. I'm still learning this thing too.

BTW - Should I continue to use hosts?

You can leave it if you like until you feel comfortable removing it. I haven't used mine in a long time with success.

Good luck, and my pleasure.

ZX: I did everything that you had said above (5X).
Tested each time same results:
I got the new browser window after selecting the link(s).
One thing I did notice though, when I click on the browser window to close I don't get the new browser windows popping up any more like you do on the test porn sites. That is an improvement.
I seem to have lost track of what we were trying to accomplish here...silly me!
I am attaching the default .cfg as it is set currently. Please look at it and respond.

Thanks, cj.

Hmmm Cjsmith, thanks for replying. I took a quick look. Go ahead and enable your Proxo Indicator. On the title bar of the browser when you load a page, the word "(proxy)" will be shown trailing the title... this lets you know Proxo is working. Your config has this filter disabled.

As for the Re-use some popups filter, it looks good, you took out the URL match. Go ahead and visit the page again with the filter up top enabled and then view the source code. Do a search for the new replaced "target="top" title="cleaned!"" code. If it is there, clicking on any links should not open a new browser.

But you must make sure your default config is saved first. I'm not sure why yours is not working.

Good luck and let me know.
