 | tivo 2 vs. ReplayTV 5504 i am going to be getting digital io soon. I wanted to know which is a better PVR/DVR. They are both $150 and i need a new DVR. Maybe some reviews of past experiences thx |

Unlicensed?:TiVo OS software is under the GNU license..
not official?: is wordperfect "official"?
warranty-voiding?: TiVo warranty expires after 6 months (parts and labor) and 1 year (parts)
break you tivo?: only if you drop it while installing hacks. |

TiVo is better... it is easy to expand/hack and more popular than replay. |
|
 | reply to JoshNJ my particular util (mfs_ftp) is more usefull & been around longer than tivo's replay-knockoff
could charge for it if that'd make you feel better... |

1 edit | reply to raid85 I got a repaly TV 5504 and made it a 5040, it is SO easy to hack this thing. I can take every show and watch it on any computer in the house. there is a free program that lets you use any computer on the network as a RTV. You can a 200gig hard drive to the RTV in about 5 min. -- SCO SUCKS! |

??? Why do you think it is horrible? I own two Replays and two DirecTivo's. The DirecTivo is a spectacular product. The dual tuner is it's best feature. The season pass function is something that Replay does not do as well. The only negative I see with DirecTivo is the slow guide. But what other PVR can record 5.1? And having an integrated tuner/Tivo is less cabling and better PQ because it stores the signal without additional MPEG compression.
My vote is for the Tivo 2 with HMO. That would be a nice upgrade that DirecTV is ignoring. |
