All TiVo's can dial over Vonage. If you have a bad quality internet connection, you just have to slow the modem down. series 2 DirecTiVo's have a non-standard internal modem that does not slow down properly.
You can get an external modem from WeekKnees »www.weaknees.com/modem_fix.php that can be slowed down. The modem costs $79 from them. You might be able to find cheaper ones other places.

You are absolutely right... I use a $5 modem from ebay, a $.50 plug and some wire and solder.... Even on Series 1 it is sometimes problematic and I had trouble downloading the last (3.1.0b) large update with the internal modems... I used the external conception and got the 40+ minute download on the first attempt on each tivo (at 9600 baud)... The internal modems are crap... If you have nearly no jitter and low latency it can work like a charm at 9600.... -- I am addicted to speed --- OOL speed that is --- ~Help find a cure for cancer~Proud Member Team Discovery
