Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issue

Has anyone had a problem with downloads/uploads stopping midway... just staying there (speed is constant but nothing is being uploaded/dloaded).

LinkSys BEFSR41 v2 1.44.2 firmware
ISP is Sympatico, modem is SpeedStream 5200

1.46 has a bug in local loopback. Try transferring some 200MB zip files and testing them afterwards. Bad at least 1/2 the time.

Might as well describe the v1.46 bug.

Target the external IP like
wget "http://external.ip/~user/bigfile.zip"

Throughput is a terrible 1.2MB/s.

Every now and then, 4 bytes are corrupted -- actually copied from a previous 4 bytes (about ~180K earlier?) -- which leads me to believe it is a buffer wrap bug. The 4 bytes are always evenly aligned. Happens with Static IP mode or PPPoE mode. You can test it with a single machine!

Hi all,

I am from Singapore. also a user of the Linksys BEFSR41. However, i do not know which ver I am using. How do we check?

Router: BEFSR41 Firmware v1.46
Modem: Aztech Ethernet ADSL Modem
Connection: ADSL internet connection (Singapore)

Think about 1 month ago, started having disconnection to my internet connection. Initially, had to on and off my pc before i can resume my connection. After that, tried to manually disable the LAN connection or on/off modem and router, while monitoring my router admin page. Had to try many times whichever ways until i can get my connection back. Thought was my ISP problem and i din't bother to call and ask coz if it is router related, don't think they will help ah.

I also have problems sending out emails thru Outlook Express. Send EMPTY email no prob

So far i've read some threads in this forum, and seems like my problems are quite smiliar. Urgx.. So I can take it that, the problems i faced, is due to my firmware/router? But my disconnection takes places before I upgrade to 1.46. I did not upgrade the firmware ever since I bought my router and until recently when my friend advise me to try and upgrade since i nv upgrade b4.

Should i upgrade to 1.46.2?

By the way, I've seen scattered references to this, but here goes.

I have a v2.1 BEFSR41 that came with the 1.44.3 (not 1.44.2) firmware, dated Feb-2003.

Sadly, I, too, took the plunge with 1.46 in the interest of the security issues and have had connection problems since.

I attempted to "upgrade" to 1.44.2 since my original pre-loaded 1.44.3 firmware is gone. Unfortunately, I get the "Failed to update the data into flash rom, please retry" message. If I attempt to use the upgrade link from »192.168.1.1/Upgrade.htm, it fails about halfway through but fortunately doesn't result in diagnostic light flashing.

The WAN/LAN cables were all unplugged (except LAN to primary computer), did the resets, unplugged power for a couple minutes, etc.).

I have seen one reference where someone claimed that v2.1 routers upgraded to 1.45+ firmware could not be rolled back to older firmware. That may be the case, or it may be that v2.1 routers pre-loaded with Feb-2003 1.44.3 firmware cannot revert to 1.44.2 (or possibly older) firmware. I was, however, able to easily go to 1.45.6.
