Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issues? I know that my brothers use BitTorrent, although they don't download like insane amounts, but they do download. Hasn't locked up the router at all. It's stable as anything. Until the last few weeks, the router started to reboot, not because of BitTorrent, but for some unknown reason. Heck, BitTorrent wasn't in use for these reboots to happen.
said by gwxkil: Same probs here (NL) with the v3 1.04.17 firmware.
BitTorrent kills the router within 15 minutes. Have to reset (no powercycle) to get connection again. I have a Cisco 575 LRE modem. DHCP or Fixed IP's doesnt matter.
The people reporting no problems also use p2p-programs like BitTorrent?

hqh510 join:2001-03-24 Manassas, VA | Using 1.44.2 & 1.45.7 yields the same results for me. The router was still rebooting whenever the problem strikes. And yes, it looks like this problem is related to cable modems.
Although I don't know about the 'it all started with the 3 Mbps upgrade', as my router was up and running since day one of the upgrade for a very long time, and it never rebooted until the last few weeks. -- HQH === My website; DLink DI-624,DWL-G520,DWL-G650 Super G Performances; BEFSR41 Setup Guide:»www.geocities.com/hqh51/ |

| I'm giving this router one more chance and making sure I have the Domain name correct for Roadrunner. If that doesn't work, it's toast! |

Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issue Read through all posts and found what seems to be a common thread : all people with a problem have some sort of cable service (majority Comcast)
Could this be a 'cable access' problem, not a router problem?
Since I have a WRT54G I don't have this problem.
my 2 cents |

| Roadrunner said you don't need a domain name or even a host name, so I'm getting a new router. |

| reply to ZeitgeistJ update... befsr41 v2 1.44.2 (for 24 hrs now) comcast RCA modem
Since downgrading from 1.45.7 (which had worked for months w/o a reboot) last night, this is the first 24 hr period that I have been up straight for about a week now. Including heavy usage today with 2 wired pcs and a wireless vpn (through another device connected to the linksys). Early to say, but so far 1.44.2 is looking good on mine. Will keep advised. Neither modem nor router have changed position (nor heating changes in the room) during this period. |

| reply to ZeitgeistJ Router - BEFSR41 V2. w/1.45.7 ISP - DSL/SBC Modem - Effecient 5260
I've been having this problem for about the last 3 months now, the only solution I can find is to power cycle the modem and router, as the router some how causes the modem to lock. |

| reply to pops7 I also think with some of you that the A problem with the befsr41 router is heating....anytime my router was left on for gaming purposes or with heavy activity...the router would reset and sometimes just crash....I put the router in a place where it is very cool (the closet) and I never had problems again...This might help for you guys...also I never upgraded my firmware to the latest version because I heard there were bugs. |

Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issue
Linksys BEFSR41 v2 1.45.7 Comcast Cable RCA Surfboard
Ok, so the apparently corrolation between all of these incidents is the fact that they began about 2 weeks ago. So what changed during that period of time that would cause this, I mean would this be like a time delay in all routers to do this? LOL
1) My problem has been happening for the past three days. a] Day 1: Issue first happened shortly after I left for work. When I got home, the Diag light was red, could not ping the router, access it's menu. Reboot of router fixed. Time of occurance: Around 1-2pm b] Day 2: Issue occured shortly after 3 hours of playing Day of Defeat. Occured randomly, same issue... diag light went on, symptoms same, restart fixed. Time of occurance: 12:05am c] Day 3: This was a quick issue... was playing Battlefield Vietnam. Game came up saying Connection Problem... I immediately look at the router to see if the Diag light is red, and sure enough it is. However the problem corrected itself almost immediately, so that was a plus.
2) There are two computers on the network... here is the info.
Router: 192.168.1.1 DHCP: 192.168.1.6 - 6 leases Computer under DHCP: 192.168.1.6
My computer: 192.168.1.2 - Statically assigned
Only one instance of an unknown incoming port, 9892, and the website was www2/www5.itotf.net:http...
You know, I just find it retarded that the router doesn't have any status logging or anything of that nature... I mean this would gravely help us determine the issue. *Sighs* |

| reply to ZeitgeistJ Ok, let me add my 2 cents. I have a BEFSR41 V2 that came with 1.39. BTW, I'm on Adelphia. After some teething pains with Adelphia, the system was very stable. There were some disconnects from time to time but a call to Tech support verified that Adelphia was having problems at the time. Then about a year ago, I started getting constant disconnects that was verified to be the router. I upgraded to 1.44.2 and it has been rock stable ever since. Lots of speculation, but the two top theories are Adelphia did something the old firmware couldn't handle or the firmware simply became corrupted. My daughter did put something on top of it so this seems likely. Anyway, its working fine right now and has for almost a year. John |

Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issues? I had the same problem as many of you but I ran into some interesting info.
I had BEFSR41 v2 for a year. No problems. I had 1.44.2 on there but decided to update the firmware. Once I did that, I got these disconnect problem. Put 1.44.2 back, hard reset, and still had the same problems. Re-flashed 1.45.7 + hard reset and still had the same problems.
A month or two later, the HDD crashed. So I used a 10 month old image of the HDD and restored it. Guess what? My problems went away. another couple of weeks and no problems. Since the image was old I decided to update WinXP. After the update, I started having the problem again, though not as often. I uninstalled some of the updates, (I forgot which ones), and I haven't had the problem. Yes, I am still using 1.45.7.
So, in the end, I don't have the problem as I speak but it might not be just as often. Only time will tell.

Router make/model and firmare version: -------------------------------------- Linksys BEFSR41 Bersion 2 I've used firmwares 1.44.2 through 1.45.7, same problems. I've actually had the router replaced twice, didn't fix problems.
ISP type and provider: ---------------------- DSL PPPOE, Sympatico
DSL Modem make/model: --------------------- Speedstream 5360
I always thought it was my ISP until this thread. Purchasing a Speedstream 6300 »www.efficient.com/subscriber_net···ys.shtml tomorrow. It has WiFi, Router, and a DSL modem built into it. It's a $69.99(CDN) one time charge to upgrade from my ISP. I can't take this. I've had this problem for probably, hmm, 2 years or so. |

| reply to x062pea BEFSR41 Version 2/v 1.40.2 Cable/Cox Surfboard SB3100 No problems whatsoever.
Originally had a Version 1 with v 1.33.1 which also didn't have any problems 'till my system took a lightening it.
Always been tempted to get the latest firmware but as their site says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." After reading the posts in this thread, glad I never did.
I'm not a gamer and don't do much file sharing so this version works for me, YMMV. |

| reply to Mordrid I have about 100+ BEFSR41, 100+ BEFSX41, 75+ BEFVP41 units across the US, all of them are running firmware that has been available as of Dec 2003. Some of the BEFSR41 units are almost 5 years old (I think it's that old in some places - they were purchased when Linksys first released them).
In all that time, I've had one unit that became defective, and it was a couple bad caps.
Our networks use RR Cable or Adelphia DSL, or are internal networks for different offices/centers within the company.
We have yet to see any of the problems described in this thread. |

| Replace my BERSR41 2 days ago with a DLINK 514 (Wireless) untill this is worked out - problems gone!
FYI to anyone out there Best Buy currently has the Wireless 514 in sale for $49 - 20 MIR bringing it down to $29 after rebate - its a cheap fix untill Linksys acknowledges and fixes this problem (which could take weeks if not months to happen).
Good luck! |
