As someone who works in the business, I can attest to the fact that most people don't want to learn anything about their computer or maintaining it.
Anyone with that attitude shouldn't be surprised when their machine gets hacked and/or they fall for these scams. Its no different than buying a car and not bothering to maintain it and expecting it to continue running.
