So....any word on....

...the newer highspeed packages from Bellsouth, and any speculation when the higher speeds are going to trickle down to dsli?

Hmmmmmm?

I would like to know also. Soon I will need the higher upload for my line. I have to play games with Comcast in Virginia to have my servers up here. Which means running a VPN between Florida and Virginia with the open ports I need on my DSL line and the server here in Virginia being re-directed through the VPN.

DSLi could offer this if they want to, when it becomes available from Bellsouth. You will have to surrender your bridged or routed service though. It will only be available on PPP circuits.

well they can still give out statics on the PPP circuits, so whatever, i can have my modem do the PPPoE and the difference would be nil to my setup

I would not mind it is it was reliable and did not degrade in speed as more users got on. I had BS for 10 months before DSLI and it was PPPoE. It was as reliable as my bridged DSLI connection. Still I wonder what the oversell rate will be on the new service.

Hard to know how this will play out. One thing that isn't under ISP control is how many customers will be aggregated onto a single VC - that's up to Bellsouth. If or how that may impact the speed, I wouldn't know. But if that VC goes down, lots of folks go down, not just one customer, and how quickly those problems are cured isn't something I know.

Looking at how Bellsouth is pricing it, I would expect just about everyone to upgrade, probably as soon as they will allow them to. Is their network ready for a 100% increase in utilization? I have no idea.

eartlink has announced that they will over the 3/384 service in BS territories now

i dont mind going back to PPPoE if it means double the speed for a lil more a month

i actually got better speeds on bellsouth with PPPoE than i do now with the bridged connection
