Re: WRT54G and WAP11 Just upgraded two wap54g V2.0 routers using the must_die firmware with no problems. I am using one as a AP and the other as a repeater. Both work great now with increased range. Thank you very much for this firmware it is awesome. |

Have you testet other rate resitors then 1K ??
May be it will bumping down to 64mW

 | reply to mustdie6 What is the difference between MUSTDIE and NEO firmware ? In NEO firmware have this Modifications:
- Increased available channels from 11 to 13 - Dynamic TX Power selection - RX & TX Antenna selection (separated) - Connection stability improvement
In mustdie firmware channel 14 is channel 1 |
|
 | reply to Schnulli No, I test only 680ohms and 1k, but no difference. May be if the resistor is 10k, 100k or more the power will fall down, but I don't have RF power meter and not test it. If someone have good RF power meter, can solder 10k or 100k potentiometer and try other values ... If someone test it, post results. redards, M.G. |

Also, I have a WAP11, anyway to boost the power on that model? TIA!:)

Red "diag" light on V1.0 Mine too, seems Linksys messed up the LED layout. I haven't found any messages in kernel to indicate any failures whatsoever. |

Have you checked spectral purity with a spectrum analyzer? Sometimes cranking up the power on these things makes them get very dirty, because you're over-driving the final ooutput stage.
Hehe, nothing of the sort. Just signal strength data collected by NetStumbler from the driver of the card with RSSI and Noise included. |

 | Well, I in the status page I query the driver directly through IO ctrl. If driver reports wrong values and doesn't output what it says, there is nothing really I can do. |

About the future First of all, I'd like to say that I'm glad people use this firmware and it works. I'd like to tell you about plans for the future.
1) In the next few weeks (or probably months) I WILL NOT be working on this firmware - I have a job, I have other stuff to do and this firmware does everything I want it to do for now. Nevertheless I'll fix bugs in the MustDie 2.06 revision 1 and MustDie 1.08 revision 2 if there will be any.
2) I'll be trying to add the following features WHEN I'll resume work on the firmware:
a) Add RSSI/Noise to Status for EACH of the SSID where AP is involved b) Increase the number of the WDSes for wireless bridge mode |

Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1.08-based) HERE Well looking through this thread, I don't see if anyone has applied the mustdie 2.06 r1 firmware to a wap54g version 2.0. So I took the chance and flashed my wap54g v2 with this firmware and all is good so far. I changed the power output from 22 to 50. So far so good. And it does display the power setting as 50 in the status page. It looks like a winner. Thanks MustDie... -- " To the world, you might just be one person, but to one person you might just be the world." |

Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1. Is there a chance you can post a power hack for the WET54G either v1 or v2? I need to make it about .75km and the bridge as it is only goes like .5km...
Many thanks. |

Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1.08-based) HERE Stupid question I guess (I asked in another thread but didn't get much of an answer)...
This thread raises a lot of information I didn't have when I was upgrading the firmware on my WAP54G v1.0 (7 LEDs on the front). There is reference to a document from Linksys as part of the installation guide of mustdie's firmware that states that FW upgrades must be done in increments.
When I got my v1.0 I went from 1.06 all the way to 2.06 as that was what was shown as the appropriate download. Now, even downgraded to 1.09.01, my WLAN "Link" light stays on constantly and my WLAN "Act" light flashes even with no clients in range.
Is there any way to make this stop, I would like to be able to see the lights flashing and know whether or not I have real activity or not. The device itself works fine. Is there anyway to cold boot this thing or is it just dorked up from now on.
FWIW, I have not yet tried mustdie's FW, so I don't know what would happen with it installed.
Thanks, SS |

FYI, the power hack does not actually double or triple your distance or covera ar one would expect when going from 22mw up to 84mw.
The signal actually improves by about 20% generally.
You would be better off using an external antena on your WET54G's. (I have to 24dbi antennas at both ends and I get about 8mb/sec. About 1.1km). |
|
 | If one would expect that, one doesn't know physics The signal strength over distance is a logarithmic function, not linear. |

When I got my WAP54G v1.0 out of the box and plugged it in, it was flashing the WAN activity light exactly like yours. Thats just how they come. |

 | reply to mustdie6 Hey mustdie,
I just tried your new 2.06-based firmware, but WPA over WDS seems to be having some difficulties when both ends of the link are using 2.06. It takes a lot of reboots to get both units to do their 802.1x-handshake and start forwarding traffic. This is probably a problem in the original Linksys-firmware and not in your additions, though. Linksys still claims in their release-notes that WPA shouldn't even work at all in bridging / repeater / client-modes. I've found that keeping one end of the link at 2.07 makes things a lot more stable, so I put your firmware on the end which would benefit most from the extra power. I'll need some more time to verify if things are more stable now, but it's looking good. Thanks for your work!
PS: Could you post the source for your modifications to the 2.06 source-tree?
Grtz,
