Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1.08-based) HERE Hi MustDie, Unfortunately your version has only 11 channels (FCC). May you post European version with 13 channels? Best Regards, PiotrC |
|
2 edits | Hmm... I'll do better, I'll try to add an option to select the country you're in making the AP universal.
Nope, I won't. The "Regulatory Domain" protection is non-existent, I'll simply enable the other 3 channels |
|
 | Thanks for prompt reply. By the way - there is a nasty bug in status.asp web page - counters after rolling over 65535 are going back to zero and doesn't show proper values. May you correct it? Is it also possible to show signal strength and noise level for associated WAPs? Best regards, PiotrC |
|
 | I'll see what I can do |

4 edits | Hello folks, here is the update:
1) From now on firmware files will look like: MustDie_[Linksys firmware version]_r[MustDie revision version].trx 2) I will post the firmware only. If I'll hear a storm of complaints and requests for the source I will post the source (modified files only) as well. 3) For all posts, all revisions (binary and sources) the warning in the first post applies. 4) The firmware in the first post should be considered revision 0.
MustDie 1.08 revision 1 1) Power hack (1 - 84 mW) 2) Channel hack (1 - 14) |

mjx join:2003-11-09 Australia | Linksys has already released v1.09 firmware for the v1 and v1.1 of this WAP. Is it possible for you to incorporate those changes into that firmware? |
|
|
|
 | No GPL source for it yet otherwise I would have done it already. |

mjx join:2003-11-09 Australia | Ouch... sorry didn't know that |

 | reply to mustdie6 Hi, Something went wrong with advanced wireless parameters - transmit power field if empty. Also there is additional empty field for Country Tx power, Regards, PiotrC |

 | Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1. Has anyone tried this succesfully on their WAP54G (which hardware version)? |
|
 | Just uploaded the new firmware to my WAP, crossed my fingers and.. it works. I selected channel 14 to use with no problem (don't have any idea what is on 2484Mhz in the Netherlands by the way). I can input the power in mW in the power field and in a country field(!? Don't have any clue on that). I can't measure the effect of the powerchange, 'cause netstumbler won't recognize my WPC54 at channel 14(!), Linksys utility crashed when channel 14 is used... So far so good... |

 | reply to dutch_guy Few pieces WAP54G hardware ver. 1.0. working as wireless bridges. So far so good. PiotrC |

Thats why the "HOWTO" in the first post has "2) Do HARD RESET". The other option is to go to "Password" tab and to "Reset to default".
The reason is that the firmware uses "mustdie_txpwr" NVRAM variable which does not exist when the firmware is updated. Reseting defaults adds this variable. |

Channel 14 is for Japan only, so you'll probably need to use localized version of Linksys util. Netstumbler started crashing on me on any channel some time ago. You can see the channel number in the Status tab of Linksys web interface |
|
 | OK, so for what are two Tx power windows? Which is wchich ? Regards, PiotrC |
|
 | I tried your firmware and it works, but I also have the problem of the two input boxes. I tried a hardware reset and a 'restore to defaults', but that doesn't work. |
|
 | Yes, the same phenomenon (empty input boxes)... But you can fill the right value (84 mW ), and the unit increase the power immediately. Channel 14 didn't work for me - goes to ch.1 (shows 14, but on my laptop I see 1) or rests on previous. |

Empty boxes Sorry ppl, Revision 1 was 1.5 (some unfinished stuff added). I'll fix it asap. |

Channels and localization As far as I know certain wireless cards (as well as software) are localized to use only specific channels (sometimes hardcoded, sometimes "Region lock" like in DVDs). If AP shows channel 14 in status - thats what it most probably uses. |

Revision 2 HERE Sorry for the problems with revision 1.
MustDie 1.08 revision 2 1) Advanced Wireless: Fixed Tx power boxes 2) Advanced Wireless: Removed Antenna Selection box 3) Advanced Wireless: Added Transmitter Antenna box 4) Advanced Wireless: Added Receiver Antenna box 5) Status: Added Transmission Power value
Details: Apart from the obvious fixes of the problems with the Tx power boxes the firmware now allows for separate selection of the antennas for Rx and Tx (Left, Right or Diversity).
Bugs I won't be able to fix: 1) Packet counters: this data is queried from /proc/net/dev in a proper way, therefor the problem may be in a driver which I won't touch 2) SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) in the status: I have found this data for bridge mode, but could not find the IO control/utility where I can get this data for AP mode. I'll get it in if I can find it, but no promises.
As always please post your feedback. Cheers. |
