Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1. said by pfhew: netstumbler won't recognize my WPC54 at channel 14(!), Linksys utility crashed when channel 14 is used...
Channel 14 is for Japan only, so you'll probably need to use localized version of Linksys util. Netstumbler started crashing on me on any channel some time ago. You can see the channel number in the Status tab of Linksys web interface |

 | OK, so for what are two Tx power windows? Which is wchich ? Regards, PiotrC |
|
 | I tried your firmware and it works, but I also have the problem of the two input boxes. I tried a hardware reset and a 'restore to defaults', but that doesn't work. |
|
 | Yes, the same phenomenon (empty input boxes)... But you can fill the right value (84 mW ), and the unit increase the power immediately. Channel 14 didn't work for me - goes to ch.1 (shows 14, but on my laptop I see 1) or rests on previous. |

Empty boxes Sorry ppl, Revision 1 was 1.5 (some unfinished stuff added). I'll fix it asap. |

Channels and localization As far as I know certain wireless cards (as well as software) are localized to use only specific channels (sometimes hardcoded, sometimes "Region lock" like in DVDs). If AP shows channel 14 in status - thats what it most probably uses. |

Revision 2 HERE Sorry for the problems with revision 1.
MustDie 1.08 revision 2 1) Advanced Wireless: Fixed Tx power boxes 2) Advanced Wireless: Removed Antenna Selection box 3) Advanced Wireless: Added Transmitter Antenna box 4) Advanced Wireless: Added Receiver Antenna box 5) Status: Added Transmission Power value
Details: Apart from the obvious fixes of the problems with the Tx power boxes the firmware now allows for separate selection of the antennas for Rx and Tx (Left, Right or Diversity).
Bugs I won't be able to fix: 1) Packet counters: this data is queried from /proc/net/dev in a proper way, therefor the problem may be in a driver which I won't touch 2) SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) in the status: I have found this data for bridge mode, but could not find the IO control/utility where I can get this data for AP mode. I'll get it in if I can find it, but no promises.
As always please post your feedback. Cheers. |
|
 | Hi MustDie, thanks a lot for your really fast feedback. As for me it's important to know signal strength and signal to noise in bridge mode (I'm using all devices in bridge mode only). In AP mode (or better AP client mode) you can see signal strength in AP mode while querying for your neighbourhood. Can you try to implement it? Regards, PiotrC |

Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1. Is there a chance you can post a power hack for the WET54G either v1 or v2? I need to make it about .75km and the bridge as it is only goes like .5km...
Many thanks. |

FYI, the power hack does not actually double or triple your distance or covera ar one would expect when going from 22mw up to 84mw.
The signal actually improves by about 20% generally.
You would be better off using an external antena on your WET54G's. (I have to 24dbi antennas at both ends and I get about 8mb/sec. About 1.1km). |
|
 | If one would expect that, one doesn't know physics The signal strength over distance is a logarithmic function, not linear. |

Re: Channels and localization Can You explain in few words how to compile Your firmware. As I understand it is enough to replace files in Linsys source tree with yours, and execute 'make'? Is this will produce valid trx image file for WAP54G?
Thank You in advance, Svetozar |

CPMBroadband, DSL, cable join:2001-08-24 Brooklyn, NY | How do I update my firmware on a linksys router? Do i follow the same steps what linksys was said.
Do I install HACK firmware the same way linksys said it on there web site? |

Re: [wireless] WAP54G Firmware with Power Hack (1. I think your`s line cable ... hmm is nog wherry good.. how long is it.. and the name of the cable.. i use ECO FLEX 10 and ECO FLEX 15 Cell Flex 1/2" Andrew 1/2" and with 2 linksys.. and 21DBd Dishes in ABS plastic with 2x 20M ECO FLEX 15 21 KM 54G tested on a Beach in Denmark.. with standard software .. 30mWatt thumb rule... 4 times the effect 2 times the distance.. rofley.. as mustdie Replies.. 22 to 84mWatt.. almost times 4 if you use 23dbi .. its approx 20.7DBd and that is 100 times the impute.. minus cable loss
sorry for my bad English.. was better in the physics class than in English.. |
