 | modem syncing a week early I switched from Omsoft DSL to Comcast cable several years ago. I recently called to sign back up with Omsoft to save $20/month over Comcast. Using the same phone line, DSL spliter, wire and modem, hooked it up shortly after I called and the modem was blinking red this weekend as I expected, Due date for the order is the 19th of April and as of the 12th the modem is syncing but I can't ping Omsoft's servers.
Could the line be all setup so soon? Could I just have Omsoft finish the setup on their end?

| usually provisioning is a multi-step process. Being able to sync between the DSLAM and your modem is just one of those steps.
You're probably correct, that the DSLAM provisioning portion is done - but since you can't login and get surfing, Omsoft still has some work to do on their end. -- Mine Take a Ride on the SHORT BUS

 | reply to narnia777 Update: I found out today that my old modem Acatel 1000 has an internal different setting then my isp now uses, had to change a setting in the menu at 10.0.0.138 in the modem. I can now access the internet, though it's slower then expected.. I'm only getting about 256/256 speeds... instead of 1.5/256. Wonder if there is a cap placed, will have to call the isp tommarrow and have them check it out.
I could have probably had a working modem a week ago if I knew that the setting wasn't the same as 2 years ago.
Something about a brige port and two numbers 0 and 35, the old default was 8 and 35.

| reply to narnia777 Ahhh VP/VC settings...
Believe it or not in the beginning the old setting was 8.35 and the alcatel 1000 followed that religiously, some older caymans, 5260's (if defaulted) and some quite old modems followed that protocol. Some older modems also followed 0.105, 0.32, 0.35 (current SBC standard), 0.24 (heard this was in pacbell for a short time, never confirmed though) and some different ones. It seems the industry is going to the universal 0.35 for communications, but some ISP's to keep you from connecting to some other ISPs (like an entrapment method)would specify to ASI like a 0.31 a non standard so you could not just take thier modem and go to a different provider. I believe it got so bad Efficient networks invented a way to change it on the modem with the Ethernet 300 software and still may do it today.

 | Yeah the modem had to be changed to 0 and 35. Works like a charm, the isp figured out and fixed the slowdown so now I get 1.5/256 that I'm paying for.
