[Other] Billing changes?

Has anyone noticed changes in the billing for Nov/Dec?

I've been with RCN for years now so it's possible that my bill might be slightly different due to the customer retention program that I am a part of.

It looks like they've broken down a lot of the packages from something simple like New Digital Vision/HBO and added items like:

Premier Total Pack
Premier Movie Pack
Unlimited Long Distance (Didn't have this before)

In the end there's a ($126) Promo discount and a ($30) bundle discount which brings the total service price down by .18 but taxes have increased a bit. So basically I'm looking at a bill that's about $1 more.

I don't have HD right now and would like to reduce ths cost to cover the HD rental. Maybe reduce the 20 Mbps service and get rid of the Movie package. What I fear is that my promo discount might not apply when I try to reduce services and then I might be actually getting less for more. I'll call them on Monday to find out. Any opinions?

[Connectivity] Frequent dropped connection problem in Philadelph

For some time (about 6 months) I have been experiencing daily loss of internet connection at seemingly random intervals. Sometime it doesn't connect at startup. I wait awhile (a few minutes to 1/2 hour) it comes back on. When the problem occurs the "Online" light goes dark, then the "Send" light goes dark. I cannot access modem through the browser when the problem is occuring. (I will post log and other info below.) These are the steps I have completed so far in diagnosing this problem.

First of all the setup.

I have a Motorola SB5101 (the recommended modem on RCN site for Philly.) I do not have a router. I have had RCN service for about nine years. Generally speeds are OK.

1) I searched the RCN forum here for any relevant information. I tried searching on log terms, but didn't really find anything I could apply to my situation.

2) I called RCN helpdesk. I described the problem and they said they couldn't see any problem at that time (the modem had come back online as I was waiting in queue.) They said to call back when it problem was occuring.

3) Called RCN helpdesk back when problem occurred. They said they couldn't see modem. It was probably a bad modem. I didn't agree, but had no other solutions.

4) I went and bought a brand new modem of same type. Motorola SB5101. However, the problem has continued.

I am not sure what else to do at this point.

Below are the results of my troubleshooting and the logs. All of these tests were performed today.

Here is the results of the speed test:

[CATV] Anyone Crushed in the LV yet???

A co-worker said his box reset last night. Nothing was working. Called RCN, they refreshed the box, and everything came back and "all his channel numbers were messed up... CNN moved into the 300's"

I figure he must have been crushed last night. He lives west of allentown, but not sure exactly where...

Anyway, looks like it's starting to happen..??

Hi, we've been seeing some issues sending to addresses @rcn.com for a few weeks now and I don't seem to have much luck with the form supplied in the message we're getting back:

554 To contact the RCN Postmaster Group: http://www.mail.rcn.net/contact.php

I see that others have posted similar requests in here. Let me know how best to contact you and relay our specific information.

Thanks,

[Other] Customer Service (Local care - cancellation dept)

WOW. Talk about attitude problems!

I didn't believe the posts on here about their sudden change in attitude, but they are really nasty.

I called because my HBO promo that I was promised 3 months ago fell off. It was supposed to be for 6 months.

The lady was all snooty and said there is no such thing as a 6 month HBO promo.

And that I already had all the current discounts possible.

I told her that was not true as my crush letter told me I could get 4 digital boxes for $8.88, yet I am paying $4.95 for 2 of them, and $3.95 for 1 (no idea why? they're all regular SD boxes). Suddenly she can adjust my bill, knocking the first box free, the other 2 @ $2.95, and my DVR from $17.95 to $14.95.

Then, I mention that GSN was removed and this was a particularly popular channel in this house, and that SecTV is still carrying it on an ANALOG channel (included in BASIC cable!) and she was even more snotty and said "yeah, until the end of the year when they go digital". Uhh sorry, wrong, SecTV is actually campaigning against the all digital crush. Try again. lol. She was like "I have SecTV and I know what they're doing, whatever you think sir"....

The reason I brought GSN up was because apparently it's $9.95 extra for the HD Suite tier which includes "MGMHD, UniHD.. etc etc". I ended up taking it for the $9.95 (no promo) because she lowered my box costs.

But WOW, RCN customer care used to be so helpful and nice...but now, what's with the attitude?
