Zev0Old SargePremium join:2001-08-21 Harlingen, TX | Need a GOOD hard drive backup. Can someone recommend a GOOD harddrive backup program. I have tried something called Paragon and it really sux. I'm running 98SE with 2 drives. 1 - 19gigs, 2 - 30 gigs. Just want to backup my first drive to the second in case of crashes, which I might add, I cause a lot. lol I have found a couple that will back up, but have no definitive instructions on how to restore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

it does NOT however protect from a hardware failure. But most of my problems came from programs and the OS |

| Use PowerQuest's Drive Image 5.0 and be absolutely certain that your files are safe. Drive Image is the easy answer for protecting all the valuable data on your hard drive, as well as providing disaster recovery and system upgrade solutions. Using a familiar Windows interface, you can create an exact copy of your entire hard drive or partition in minutes, onto a Zip®, Jaz®, CD-R/W, or another partition. That way, when the inevitable virus or system crash occurs, you will have an exact image of your drive secured, ready to use. -- This space for rent |

 | reply to Zev0 I vote for Norton Ghost. Can backup or restore your entire system in no time. I have restored my entire C: drive containing 10GB of data in about 30 minutes. Has never failed me. |

With DI 5, you can even schedule regular, unattended, backups. This way you get current, frequent backups of your data, files, configuration. You can also recover individual files and folders with Ghost and DI, from Windows. |

 | reply to Zev0 ZevO, I really like Ghost. You can read these guides to see what it's like. And you'll see how to restore.

If you get Ghost also be sure to also read over the Ghost FAQs at the Symantec site. I believe there's a link to it at the first link above.

I have 2 HD's My primary is a 15 GIG My secondary is 45 GIG devided up into 3 partitions.
I use drive image and make a complete image to partition 1 on second drive. then next month I make another image to partition 2 on second drive.
I always have 2 months of images on hand.
Drive image also comes with datakeeper(free I think) which I use the third partition for. It makes automatic backups of all files inbetween my major images.
I would say this is idiot proof( since I can do it:) )
unless both Hard drives blow up at the same time I feel pretty safe. BTW it takes about 20 minutes to image 12 GIG. |

Sounds like you have a good plan there. I have a similar setup as you but I just keep overwriting the images stored on my 2nd partition of my 2nd drive. The 1st partition of my 2nd drive is empty, time to start using it for another set of images. -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |

Ummm I guess we should mention Goback here also. I had goback for a while (before drive image) But I couldn't take all the HD thrashing. ANd It made some games jerky. |

dpPremium,MVM join:2000-12-08 Greensburg, PA kudos:7 | reply to auto I also have Goback running. I'm not into gaming so that is not a concern. What I don't like is I have to disable Goback in order to run Drive Image. -- Write your questions down on the back of a $20 dollar bill and send them to me |
