Does the Motorola sb4100 cable modem work with 1.5/128 cable internet service from ATT? I was thinking of switching from verizon. Is it possible to get a faster package from ATT or is that the only plan? -- Popsicle!!!!!!!! |

| Yes... the SB3100/4100 work just fine with ATTBI. The motorolas and Toshibas seem to be the two most highly recommended modems... Basically anything that is DOCSIS compliant should work just fine. 1500/128 is the network wide speed unless you are lucky enough to live in a former mediaone area, they still have their 1500/300 speeds for the most part. -- Have you looked in your anxiety closet lately? |

The SB4100 is 120 bucks and the D-Link DCM-200 is only 80 bucks. Is the motorola worth those extra 40 bucks? -- Popsicle!!!!!!!! |

| True, but you can use the program "DOCSDIAG" to see the Toshiba (and most other modems that don't have a check function like Motorola) signal levels (check forum faq). -- Have you looked in your anxiety closet lately? [text was edited by author 2002-03-03 18:31:15] |

| reply to LuckyBob If you are going to purchase a Toshiba you might as well get the latest which is a PCX2000. I know it is not on their approved list but I have one and it works much better (improved stability) than my old PCX1000. I purchased it here »www.tftcomputers.com/toshibacable.htm for $129.95 delivered. |

Just have them run a cable upstairs (tell them you need a new one due to cable problems or make up some B.S.), you don't need that data out let, but if you want it, don't buy it from them, get it your self. You can buy one for 2 or 3 dollars at Home Depot. HTH! -- My Favorite Website |

| reply to LuckyBob I recommend you let them do it. They put it on your next bill, and they gave me 2 months free, so I am not complaining.(it was a special 2 day deal last thursday and Friday. They were at my House Saturday to do the Basic Install)I was worried myself, but the guy did an AMAZING job. He took out all the wire, from the telephone pole to my house and down to my basement. He then dropped a brand new line from the pole to my basement, and then ran a wire up to the second floor where he installed the Data jack. it took him almost 1 hour for ALL this. He did a VERY good job, with water loops so the rain doesn't affect the connections, put cable supports along the building to make sure the wind doesn't move it around, and other minor details that most people don't think about. I think for 13.49 I definitely got my money's worth!
BTW: I am getting 1700/300 consistently! I came from Verizon DSL, and I am VERY impressed with AT&T, so far. =)
p.s I bought my own modem for $100(Linksys) which has fitted in perfectly with the rest of my Linksys infrastructure...(BEFW11S4v2,WUSB11v1,WPC11v2.5) I am one HAPPY camper! [text was edited by author 2002-03-03 23:48:37] |
