ISDN and MTU

I have to use ISDN.

I using Windows2000 and connecting using ISDN through a terminal adapter hooked up to my USB.

I modified the RWin setting from 2144 to 17520 and got a great improvement in download speed.

Do I need to do anything with MTU, currently set at 576 or does this only apply if I'm using Ethernet.

Thanks.

I would recommend an MTU of 1500. ISDN shouldn't have the problems 56K has.

Ethernet connections can have an MTU as high as 1500.

DRTcp shows two adapters

- WAN Network Driver
- 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller

Which one should I set for the MTU?

Also, I ran the fastest MTU test and was able to use a packet size of up to 1372 before I got a message "packet needs to be fragmented". So this means that my Max MTU is 1440?

Thanks.

1372 + 28 = 1400. Use 1400. Set it on the Ethernet Controller.

Did you run a tweak test? I think that is a little high for ISDN (the RWIN)...

I ran a tweak test and it indicated to set the RWin to between 4096 - 8192.

I thought that 17520 was the default for Windows 2000.

I ran a speed test for both 17520 and 8192 and got the same results.

Now I'm confused.

Don't be confused:) 17520 is the default for Win2K, but with broadband in mind, not high speed. You want to set your RWIN as low as possible without any speed degradation. For ISDN, 8K(8192) should be enough to sustain & stablize your line. I have IDSL(144/144Kbps) and my RWIN is at 8K.
