There should be no reason why an upgraded 5360 would be incompatible with any commonly used router, even if it is a Linksys. |

I think the only reason we are seeing 'Linksys' pop up all over the place related to this problem is that the Linksys Routers are probably the most common SOHO router at this time. Pretty popular probably because of them working so well and their reasonable price. |

I've been having problems with SBC Global's dsl service
and I thought it was my 5360 modem and the ethernet port
issue discussed at length here. But alas I have an 002
modem.
My problem is that I get disconnected at random. My
connection will start dropping packets, get progressively
worse, and then simply disconnect. Needless to say
this is a bit frustrating when in the middle of hot
StarCraft game. hehe.
Anyway, here's an example of what's going illustrated via
ping and tracert.
Anyone have any ideas of what might be happening?
My equipment:
Three Windows 2000 boxes and one linux box
Efficient 5360 modem
Netgear RO318 router
Cat 5 cabling between everything

Then go to the knowledge base for the Speedstream 5360 you can download the update from this areas.

5360 - Southwestern Bell (SBC) Firmware Update
* Overview
This update is only for the 120-5360-502 modem version. Using it on any other model will corrupt the modem. * Solution
To update your Efficient Networks 120-5360-502 modem, download the Update Guide and Setup.exe file to your hard drive and then follow the instructions as outlined in the Update Guide.
Please do not attempt to upgrade any other 5360 modem version with this updated firmware as it is not compatible with anything except the 120-5360-502 modem.
To verify that you have this version, look at the bottom of the modem and check to see that you have the part number 060-5360-023 listed there.
Note: Part Number and Model Number are not the same thing. If your part number is 060-5360-023 you have a 120-5360-502 modem.
If you see anything else besides that part number, DO NOT USE THIS UPDATE! IT WILL CORRUPT YOUR MODEM. |

(prob interfacing w/routers) I am not sure if this would be helful for all routers but I have a Linksys BEFN2PS4 router that I tried to configure to work with Speedstream 5360. First it did not work but after I updated the firmware for both (Speedstream 5360 and BEFN2PS4)it's been working GREAT. |

I just wanted to add a note to help others. I use a D-Link DI-740P router and had the same issues with very high packet loss. After installing the firmware update for the 5360, everything works great. So it's definitely not any particular routers at fault, just the silly modem.

Well I'm getting these random disconnects too, it started around Aug. 14, been going on for 19 days so far this has never done it before I had that modem you guys are talking about but I also have the modem givin to me by SBC Global: Alcatel Speed Touch PCI - Internal DSL, I've tested both modems in Win95/98/98SE/ME/2k/XP between 3 days and it did the same so its gotta be something to do with SBC I guess well any help would be nice :-D Right now I'm mainly using XP with the internal since I made it work lol.

Well, I just got my 5360 and lo and behold, it doesn't work with my SMC Barricade 4 port router... I'm crossing my fingers that when I check the modem's part number it matches the fixes... Let you know how it works out...
BTW, this is a great thread. I wasn't able to find any mention of these problems on SMC, Ameritech, or Speedstreams websites... great job! |

| Hi,
I am a prodigy DSL user and PacBell/SBC provided me with the hardware associated with the DSL connection.
The hardware provided was a Efficient 5360 ADSL modem (060-5360-002) and I run Prodigy Internet 5.5 on a Windows ME/ Windows 2000 machine. When I use either machine with the software provided by Prodigy/PPPoE and modem directly, everything works in terms of a connection.
I am now trying to access the internet with both machines at the same time by using a Linksys BEFSR41 router. Here is where it gets too simple to be true!
I did all the right connections, removed the PPPoE software off the two machines and tried to connect.
When I access »192.168.1.1[?] for the linksys router, it says I am connected and I am able to disconnect too. However, whatever I do, I cannot access any other website, either with the IP address or otherwise and it always returns that I am not connected to the internet.
I have a Intel 10/100 Ethernet card on both machines.
Looks like the connection from Ethernet card to Router (using the »192.168.1.1[?]) is okay as it is accessible.
Also, the router says it is able to connect between the router and the modem (connect/ disconnect to ISP).
Prodigy DSL support bolts from me when they hear the word "router". Is there any advise from the knowledgeable folks out here?

This is really more of a Linksys issue, so please take any further discussion over there, but it sounds like a DNS issue. You'll have to set the DNS either in the router to be served by the router's DHCP (if it can) or in the TCP/IP configuration of your 2000/Me machine.
If this is it, say so, but if not, have fun in Linksysland.

You want to be plugging into the WAN port, and you don't want to use a crossover cable. Have you, also, checked the DNS settings?

| I figured out when I ping "www.yahoo.com", nothing happens, but when I ping an IP address, I get back 100% return.
Looks like my DNS is hosed - I tried both "automatic" and the "manual" DNS entries. Still something is hosed and I cannot connect.
