Tweaks?

All-
I am getting a wireless install Monday. Curious if there are tweaks available as there are with Satellite. I currently use DRTCP as well as a couple of registry tweaks that have drastically improved my 2-way satellite performance. Any input greatly appreciated.

The same tweaks should work for wireless because they are universal tweaks..

Are you sure about that? I understood that the tweaks for satellite worked by optimizing the packets for a high latency connection. On a direcway satellite connection it's possible to increase download speeds from 400kbit/sec to 1.5Mbit/sec by tweaking. (I use this).

For a typical wireless ISP, the bits per second are usually throttled at the NOC so any tweaking will probably not result in faster throughput. It certainly won't improve it to the point it improves a 2 way satellite connection. And I would think you should use different tweaks (if any) than is used for a satellite connection.

This is not generally correct. Most tweaks for satellite increase RWIN to 200,000 or more. This is appropriate for a high-latency link designed specifically for large packets, but not terrestrial wireless.

yes you are probably true but the RWIN tweak at least here from what i see looks at what you RWIN currently is set at you plug in what your connection speed is I.E DSL, Cable, wireless or I assume satelite and it suggests what you should set it to for best results? I suppose thats what other RWIN programs do as well??

I guess maybe I dont understand the question??

We do increase our RWIN(mine is at 474280)due to the latency issues. I do commonly experience speeds of 2mbps(yes that is correct)on the downstream side. Here is the link to the tweaks most of us on 2-way use.
http://www.broadbandreports.com/faq/2019 My question is what tweaks, if any, are needed to optimize the wireless connection for maximum throughput.

Different ballgame

Tweaking for Satellite with its 1000ms+ latency is completely different from wireless. Tweak wireless just like you would cable modem or DSL for that appropriate speed.

I find the default 64K RWIN in WinXP just fine for most broadband connections.

Something to think about: I stream a lot of 128kbps MP3s while I'm browsing. On my 768kbps cable line at home, when I had my RWIN at 16K I would pull a consistent 16K/sec (~128kbps) on the stream. If I put my RWIN at 32K the data stream would burst every other second on/off @ 32K/sec. If I put the RWIN at 64K I would receive a 64K/sec burst of data every 4 seconds.
So as far as radio time goes the larger RWIN seems to be a better alternative.

Re: Tweaks?

I am running 30ms on my wireless isp. I have set rwin at 51100 and the rest of drtcp settings at default. Do the tweak test here at DSLR, if you have an addressable ip. These settings seem to work best for me.
