Re: [Cingular] Useless Pictures

So, it seems everyone except Cingular allows emailing of pics from camera phones. I wonder why Cingular doesn't allow emailing?

Cingular is really pissing me off. In order to speak to someone you have to wade through a mind-numbingly long voice menu (tried hitting "0" or "*" to no avail), when you finally do get someone, 50% of the time they disconnect you and you must wade through the menu yet another time. I have not been able to find an email address for anyone in customer service. Their tech support doesn't seem to be in the loop on what works and what doesn't.

And I'm locked into a freakin' two-year contract with them now. Perhaps I'll sue 'em.

Let me know if you do. I think it's absurd that they block e-mailing pictures out.

This is how ALL carriers are, as of right now MMS isn't able to cross carriers. My friends with spring couldn't send me a picture and I couldn't send them one. I am sure at some point GSM providers will be able to send to each other, and CDMA should be able to each other also.

I have sprint, and I can email the pics anywhere I want. I can also upload them to a picture vault, and then send the pics to anyone from there as well.

I haven't tried the MMS/SMS option of sending the pics yet, though, because no one else we know has web access enabled on their phones.

cewyatt, you've just discovered why, after being a Cingular user for 6 years, we finally gave up on them and switched to SprintPCS.

How much would it cost to cancel the service?

Since I am at the beginning of a two year contract, it would cost a lot to cancel now. Even though I had 15 days to cancel, since I ordered the phones and service online, they include the shipping time in that 15 days (isn't that nice of them), and to cancel I had to have the phones back to them via shipping within the 15 days also, they won't accept them at their stores. So in reality I had far less than 15 days.

I have just switched from SprintPCS because in my area they just do not have the necessary network coverage to be of practical use. I've been with SprintPCS for a year and though their customer service people have been exceptionally nice, their network coverage makes them unacceptable. That's why I switched to Cingular since their coverage is nearly omnipresent around here. I just wish they weren't so misleading in their advertisement of "multimedia" and "sharing".

Try a BBB report. Maybe something will happen?

Excuuuuuuse me Smee!

Verizon picture phones can send camera phone pics to any email address. I tried this in the store, with the VX6000. It works fine.

That's an idea... it's useless trying to discuss it with their customer service people, they either don't understand what you're talking about or they're just not interested or have any ability to address it. And there is no email address for anyone at Cingular listed anywhere that I can find. I've searched their website extensively and there is simply no email addresses for them whatsoever. I find that a bit strange.

Man cewyatt, I'm really sorry about that crap. You're right about their misleading advertising - I was watching tv the other night, and the commercial for Cingular with the picture phone came on, and it clearly stated that you can send pictures to anyone (it did not say "Anyone on Cingular" - the announcer clearly said ANYONE. That is totally misleading, because the truth is you can't - you can't even take the pics off your phone through a cable and then email them from your computer. That just sucks.

Report them to the BBB - the 15 days should not include shipping, and I can't believe they won't take the phones back at the store. What the hell? We had big problems when we were with Cingular, including the final one of disconnecting our phone service for "non-payment" when they had in fact received and cashed in the payment, they just did not apply it to the correct account - and then they told me that I was "lucky" to not have the reconnect fee of 72 bucks charged, even though it was THEIR FAULT for not applying the payment to the correct account in the first place.

*breath* I'm so happy we're not with them anymore. They weren't so bad before, it's been in the last 3 or so years that things went downhill with them.

I just filed a complaint with the BBB. I doubt anything will come of it, but at least I made an attempt.

If you're using the T226 on Cingular then you can NOT email pictures. You can only send pics via MMS messaging to another Cingular user with an MMS capable phone. The only way to view the pics you take is on the phones. You're right, we weren't told this when we bought them, that's why I've filed a BBB complaint against Cingular for false advertising.

BTW, the phone does support emailing the pics, it is just Cingular that doesn't enable that feature. Every other carrier apparently does allow emailing pics.

Can Email Pictures from my T616 on Cingular

Saw this thread and wanted to share my experiences. I have been able to write an email from my SE T616 and send pictures since I first signed up with Cingular since October of this year.

I actually emailed a picture taken with the camera phone to co-workers and myself this evening to make sure. I work out in the field a lot and email pictures to co-workers almost everyday. Haven't had any problems with Cingular as a carrier. The GSM network in DC is decent. I use Verizon when GSM isn't available and dropped ATTWS for Cingular.

MMS does work well if slow and for friends not on cingular they receive a text message and a link where to view it on the web... I have Internet XPress, SMS and MMS with Cingular and all is good so far.

Looking forward to dropping Verizon when my contract is up.

What is the outgoing mail server you have the phone use? A Cingular tech tried to find out the server names (since emailing from the phone requires you to enter a mail server name) but he was told they do not give out that information, thus Cingular not supporting emailing from the phone. Yes, you can email using the internet link but that is different, you're just connecting to the web page. To email directly from the phone you must tell the phone your incoming and outgoing email server names (for POP3).

If you have those names, please do tell us all how you got them since even tech support can't seem to locate them.

POP3 Settings for Photo Express Profile

The data account set up for "Photo Messaging" is

APN = wap.cingular
User ID = wap@cingulargprs.com
Password = CINGULAR1

GPRS IP Address = 066.209.011.061

Email Settings
Connect Using = Photo Messaging
Protocol = POP3
Incoming Server = photo.mycingular.com
Incoming Port = 110
Mailbox = cing
Password = msg
Outgoing Server = photo.mycingular.com
Outgoing Port = 25

These were the settings that came with the photo with the following data accounts: Photo Messaging, Express, Home, Roam and GPRS 4. Didn't have to call CS for them as they were all preprogrammed with the phone. I am using Wireless Internet Express (WIX) for internet services on Cingular. If Cingular does not have WIX for your area then your using Wireless Internet and those settings are available at Howard Forums:

This is a great mobile phone community for information.

Hope this helps... Cheers

I'll give those a try. That is extremely interesting since Cingular tech support, three of them in fact, has told me there is no such service, that the only way to exchange pictures is via MMS. One tech was very very nice and tried to find the info, he even called me back twice.

FYI, I put in all the info and YES! I can email pictures from my phone! Amazing that the Cingular tech people denied this was possible.

Re: [Cingular] Useless Pictures

Wow, I'm glad the feature now works for you, Cewyatt. I hope that everyone on here who was having this problem finds this post and puts those settings in so that they can use their picture phones.

Maybe it wasn't available in your area, but in other areas it was? That's just so weird that one person would have the settings on his phone, while others wouldn't be given them and then told they don't exist.

I've been trying to get those setting put into my Nokia 6200 for several days now and have got no where. It will connect to GPRS and try to send the e-mail and then it says it fails.

Any idea?

I had to go to several different menus on my SonyEricsson T226 in order to set up everything, but luckily it worked the first time I tried. I first went to the CONNECT menu and set up a new Data account with the "Photo messaging" name, then to the MESSAGE menu and chose EMAIL, then the Options and set up a new account (I named it Cell) and have it use the "Photo messaging" connection. That is where I entered the username/password and such that is listed. Then I took a pic with the camera and chose to send it via email, it worked!
