Charlottesville is closest, but it's been plagued with problems. DNS resolution won't help your latency, fast DNS resolution will help speed up websites loading for the first time you visit, but your PC will cache the entry for a specific period of time.

I run my own caching DNS server at home and point to the following, in order: 4.2.2.4, 66.92.159.2, 209.244.0.4. They're all ~20ms from us here in Powhatan.

I've noticed that sbcglobal.net directly peers with adelphiacom.net. So pings are usually great.

I can usually get to these 2 withing 20-30ms.

206.141.192.60 [dns1.chcgil.sbcglobal.net]
206.141.193.55 [dns1.sfldmi.sbcglobal.net]

Verio also directly peers with adelphiacom.net. So these work pretty well. Usually less than 40-50ms.

129.250.15.58 [ns1.verio.net]
129.250.31.23 [ns2.verio.net]

Also, if you search google for that first sbcglobal.net IP, you'll come accross the prodigy.net DNS page.

»help.prodigy.net/help/install/specifics.html

These are, from the ones that I checked, all sbcglobal.net DNS servers and therefore directly peered to adelphiacom.net and should be pretty good in speed.

Thanks to tr0utp0nd for pointing out the sbcglobal servers.

Hmmm

What would happen or would there be any benefit to put these DNS server info into the router?
