An added note: This is very specific to DVD Decrypter v3.2.1.0 (latest as of now) DVD Shrink v3.1.7.6 (also most current version) and presumes you have either Nero 5.x or 6.x installed on your computer (for DVD Shrink to work with). |

There is something weird in this guide. You dont need to use DVD Decrypter when you want to use DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink decrypts and shrinks the DVD in one pass. This guide proposes a two passes process, first Decrypter, then Shrink, not needed at all. I still prefer those guides to fully backup or reauthor a DVD with DVD Shrink: » www.dvdshrink.info/fulld ··· asic.php and » www.dvdshrink.info/reaut ··· asic.php |

I wasn't for certain that DVD Shrink could handle the decryption and had not tried it. I will do so shortly. Almost everything else I've read about using DVD Shrink points to using a separate decrypter initially. This will be a good thing - pretty much like getting something like DVD X Copy, only FREE!!
Once I get it checked out, I'll revise the document and just overwrite the existing one so the link will still work properly. |

I have never had anything Shrink wouldn't decrypt, but just in case there is Decrypter. Some folks say it is faster to decrypt with Decrypter and then use Shrink, but with the newest version of Shrink being 1 touch, with a DVDrom and a burner, that doesn't matter to me, as I just set it up and go do something else while it does the work. |

Found One It Couldn't Handle |
Well, in light of the error I encountered (twice) while going back and working with the same DVD that I used while writing up the document, I've decided to leave it pretty much alone. I'd rather have a way that has a better chance of success at the expense of an extra step. As I said, same DVD I used previously. After hitting the error once, I started all over and hit the same thing at about the same point again. Without even removing the DVD from the tray, I then cranked up DVD Decrypter and it whizzed right through it with 100% success again. System: AMD 1800+, 256MB RAM, Sony DRU-510A DVD drive, writing to a 200GB WD 7200RPM HDD. Windows XP Pro with all patches applied. Nero 5.5 on the system also, just for the record. |

I personally use either dvdshrink or dvd2one or both for encoding. But regardless, I always use Dvddecryptor for ripping. I figure that's what it was made for: for ripping. And it does it well. Usually, it doesn't matter how you rip. But sometimes, it is just easier to click once "Rip and Convert" and let the whole automated process do it. I haven't done it with Shrink because I am an old dog, my Dvddecrypter ripping habit doesn't change easy. |

This error comes from the Sony DVD drive. I already found some hardware incompatibility between Sony DVD Drives and Shrink. I really don't know why. |

I think I'll try to get in touch with DVD Shrink maker and see if they're working on this. A "one button" solution really would be great, especially for the novice who doesn't care "how it works" so long as it just works. Meanwhile, revised the doc slightly to tell why I am using the 2-program method, and to add some links to Doom9, DVDRhelp, and MrBass so that anyone wanting details on all the stuff I didn't cover in the quick-down-and-dirty instructions can get them. |

I use DVD Shrink to decrypt and rip all my movie "back ups;)" I have never gotten that error message using my Lite-On dvd rom drive to read the dvd. I then burn using Roxio 6 with my Plextor 708a burner. Awesome results everytime:) |
