I disagree. Spyware are programs that collect information about you, personal or otherwise, and share it without your consent. Offering your zipcode isn't spyware because you offered it. Targetted adverising isn't Spyware in and of itself either, if the information used to create the target was offered by the user.
Granted, the description given in these posts is vague at best. I also agree with your description of Adware. -- -Ryan
