burble join:2002-10-05 San Diego, CA | 7100AP WPA-PSK doesn't work? I just picked up this access point today and I installed it on my network.
I have verified that no-encryption mode works fine and encryption mode in WEP mode (152-bit) works fine.
However, when I try to select WPA in PSK mode, I can not get my laptop to connect to the network.
I'm using a Netgear WAG511 PCCard. It works in all the other modes, but I can't seem to get this to talk to the 7100AP in WPA-PSK.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to get this working? |

 | I had a similar problem with the DI-624, which ultimately turned out to be defective hardware.
Make sure that the wireless adapter you are using supports WPA, and if you are using Windows XP, try installing the WPA Supplicant and patch.
The first difference I noticed after exchanging my hardware, was that the wireless adapter was now automatically detecting that the router was using WPA-PSK and TKIP, whereas before I had always had to change it from Open and WEP. |

I tried the DLink 7100 AP Manager software installed on a PC on the ethernet side. I set the SAME things I setup via the webpage, but this time after setting the WPA-PSK passphrase, IT WORKED!
Heck, it even worked with my sentence passphrase, spaces and punctuation and all.
I have no idea what I did or didn't do, but it works now, and when I go into the telnet to verify, I see that the state of the wireless card is "Associated" in the "TKIP" state. |

| reply to burble I have a 7100AP as well, and I have noticed that the web-based interface is quite a bit buggy. For instance, if I use the web based interface to change which access point the 7100ap associates to in client mode(using F/W 1.01), it will reset the internal station connection between the A and G channels to disabled.
I should try to set up WPA-PSK using the AP manager. Currently I'm using 152 bit WEP. |

burble join:2002-10-05 San Diego, CA | I did some more testing. With the Netgear WAG511 card, I could ONLY connect WPA-PSK using the Netgear Smart Wizard utility. (It's akin to DLinks AirPlus utility)
If I tried using Windows XP's Zero Configuration WPA-PSK setup, the card would Associate, but not pass traffic.
I wonder if my selection of the Netgear card is at fault.

Oh well.. I just ordered the D-Link DWL-P100. So I can put the AP in the main living room and not make it ugly with all the cables. |
