VPN connect through WAP has problems

I am runnin WXPRO, have a cable modem connected to a DI-704 router. When my Toshiba Satellite is wired to the router and I access the VPN at my office (Microsoft VPN) everything works fine. When I have my USR5410 adapter installed and use my USR5450 WAP (connected to the router) to connect to the VPN I can connect ok but I have two big problems - Outlook keeps losing connection with the Exchange server AND for some reason I can't access any of the drives on my network. Again - this is all fine when I am "wired" to the router. I tried changing the MTU on the wireless adapter to 1400 (which is what Microsoft recommends) and still no luck. Some co-workers also have wireless networks at home but none of them have this problem. I am the only one using Office 2003 (I know that should no make a difference). The others are not using USR or Dlink products. I would REALLY appreciate help. I thought this was supposed to be easy.

Do you have the best (not necessarilly the latest) firmware for the WAP? Do you have the latest drivers for your adapter?

change your card's MTU to 1200 and try updating the card driver to the latest.

I am ready to return my USR products and start over. I have a D-Link 704 router and an SB4100 cable modem. My needs are very simple. All I want to do is access the internet and be able to VPN in to my office and use Outlook and my network drives. I have a Toshiba Satellite and I am running XPRO. Please help.

I replaced the D-Link 704 with a Linksys Wireless-G with SpeedBooster and bought a Linksys notebook adapter. Problem solved. Better throughput and no more VPN problems. I did have to call the Linksys Tech support. They were very helpful and I LOVE the 24/7 availability of tech support. Case closed.
