NT 4.0 Compatible WiFi Card

Anyone know of any PCMCI 802.11b/g cards that have drivers which are compatible with Windows NT 4.0?

My company laptop is an older Dell Latitude with NT (have to wait until company upgrades to XP in 12+ months) which I would like to use at some local hot spots.

Unfortunately the machine is not compatible with XP and I am not allowed to perform an upgrade since it belong's to my employer.

Any suggestions would be great, especially if a specific make/model has Win2000 drivers which would be compatible.

I've had a D-Link DWL-660 working with NT4. When time permits I'll see if I can check other cards...

I have a Microsoft USB wireless network adapter, and it says its compatible with Win98/98SE/2000/Me/XP so i figure it would be compatible with NT. *looks for model #* aha "Microsoft MN-710 Broadband Networking Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter" its backwards compatible with other USB Versions and supports 802.11g & 802.11b wireless standards.

lol ... thanks for some of the product suggestions.

Roger, does the DWL-660 use Win2k drivers with NT4?

@co.uk

Sorry I couldn't get back to you before...

No, DWL-660 uses drivers specific to NT4. The CD supplied with the card includes W98, NT4 and W2K.

Tried a DWL-650+, but no joy. No specific NT4 drivers included on CD, and W2K ones don't work. Not searched D-Link's site for any others though...

The only other PCMCIA card I have is an old Pheenet WL0011 (802.11b) which uses an Intersil PRISM II chipset. This works fine in NT4, and again, the CD has NT4 specific drivers.

Incidentally, my NT4 installation has SP6 installed.

Hope that helps...

ROGER.

You specify b/g. I only have one NT test system left, and it only has a number of b cards.

Orinoco, Symbol, Cisco 340/350 all worked with my NT.

I might suggest that you stay with the 'corporate' brands in looking for NT support with b/g.

Thanks a lot guys, guess I will start my shopping this weekend for a DWL-660 since that should be in my budget range.

Roger,

I was just checking out D-Links site on the 660, they do not mention any compatiblity with NT4.

If I happen to purchase one and it's lacks the NT drivers, any chance I can get them from you if I can't find any online?

No problem. Let me have an e-mail address I'll forward 'em on to you if you need 'em...

so, MonkeyBiz, did it work?

I have exactly the same problem. I know the LinkSys wpc11v3 definitely works (a colleague's using it) but its been replaced now with v4 which doesn't support NT4. I've trawlled through countless outlet sites which sell "wpc11" but when you enquire they all say it'll actually be the latest stock!!

if anyone knows a UK stockist of slightly obselete stock, that'd be useful!

Try eBay There are several older 802.11b cards that work with NT/Windows 95 etc. but MonkeyBiz was specifically asking for 802.11g one. I wonder if DWL-660 worked. It is good to know.

ZyXEL re-badges the same OEM card as the WPC11 as the ZyAIR B-100. Provantage is still showing stock shows them as backordered. If they replenish, it might be an alternative.

I should have bought one as a backup.

Just add more hardware.

Except that I think ZyXEL does not provide an NT driver as far as I know.

You asked MonkeyBiz if the DWL-660 worked... Yes it does! See my first post where I stated I had one working in NT4. MonkeyBiz also said 802.11b/g, so I think that covers the (b) card that I suggested.

ROGER.

Thank you. Although seeing NT4 is rare these days it still is good to know that there is one that supports NT.
