marcw join:2001-05-18 Saint Paul, MN | Re: Public IP on the inside: DHCP spoofing for Tho For anyone using this profile, make sure that you don't perform a simple cut 'n paste. There are several lines that got split in the posting that should be on one line for the real profile. If a line doesn't have a "=" (equals sign) in it, it probably belongs to the preceding line.
Excellent work bigjoesmith! I'm glad you got spoofing working. You were able to accomplish what I was not. If PPTP relay weren't working so well for me, I would probably try again with spoofing.
Which firmware were you dealing with for this specific profile? You imply 4.0 but I'm not positive. Did you try both 4.0 and 4.2? Fwiw, I did indeed change demanddial among many other settings and still couldn't get it to work. I also tried both 4.0 and 4.2.5.
My 530 only trains up to 1536/896 despite my old Actiontecs going all the way up to 1536/1024. Is your experience similar? I suspect so.
Since you were looking for a real ip addr also, I suspect your next machine is a router or firewall, like mine is. (Otherwise what's the point?) Do you happen to know if your next machine is capable of PPTP? If so, it would be interesting to compile performance stats for both spoofing and pptp relay. But since you have spoofing already working, that would have to be an exercise for intellectual curiosity purposes only, I guess.

| Re: Public IP on the inside: DHCP spoofing for Tho Ack. Yes, I didn't anticipate the line-splitting problem. I'll have to attach the template as a file.
I'm using firmware 4.2.3.0.0. I didn't try any other firmware, but this template was advertised by others as being the correct one to use with 4.2.5.
My 510v4 trains at 1536/896. My Actiontec trains at 1536/1024. The end result is I lose a little less than 100kbits upload. I'll take it.
The next machine behind my Thomson is indeed a router/firewall. It's capable of PPTP, so I might try the PPTP connection mechanism also. I wanted to try DHCP Spoofing because I was unfamiliar with the concept and wanted to see how it played out.

Here's a template for DHCP spoofing on qwest, using a Thomspon modem. (Same template as is listed above, without the line splitting problem.)
