Re: Verizon Press Releease on new higher-speed ser

"This quarter Verizon Online will triple to 384Kbps the upstream speed of its basic DSL offering for qualifying customers. The price for this 1.5Mbps/384Kbps service will remain the same as the current 1.5Mbps/128Kbps service -- $34.95 a month for stand-alone service or $29.95 a month when purchased as part of a package of local and long-distance calling services."

Re: Stating The Facts

No mention of the loop length upgrade for the 1.5MPbs though, which is a lot more important to me than faster upload speeds.

Right, but there's no mention of that in the release.

At 14254 cable feet, the loop length is also more important to me. There is a vague reference to three miles.

Re: release

Read the other upgrade threads and you will find the FCC tariff filing discussing the increase in loop length to 18,000 feet....

That reference to three miles is just part of the company/service description put at the end of news releases, and probably isn't anything specifically related to the release itself.

Re: Verizon Press Releease on new higher-speed ser

I have two words:

Woo hoo!

The 1.5/384 will be sweet, and I'm very curious about what the pricing ends up being on the 3/768 plan!

Re: Verizon Press Releease on new higher-speed service

It's about time ! Good going Verizon !

Now all we need to do is find out if there is any action users need to take to get the 1.5/384 or if the circuits will be automatically reporvisioned at those speeds.

You will need to call VOL in order to get the upgrade, just like last year's downstream upgrade. This is not an automatic upgrade for existing customers....

Re: Stating The Facts

No mention of that loop length qualification change that BBR had sources on. Hope it's true. That will be more significat to many users than an upload increase.

I'd consider signing over my firstborn for that... which should tell you how likely I think it is. hehe. I'm going to take a wild guess, based only on the fact that upstream always seems to cost a lot more than downstream, coupled with the fact that this is supposed to be a residential offering... and try to shoot for a nice round number... so; $100 is what I'm going to shoot for. I would seriously consider it myself for around that.
