Not advertised on their home page under any category. How do I find out about upgrading my existing 1500/768 service? Will the upgrade be automatic for existing accounts? Any increase in price?

Thanks for the heads up!

ross

It looks like it is $59/mo for the first 6 months and then $69 after that. I think there is also a 1 yr commitment, but I couldn't hear him very well and their network was down.

Like I said the connection I had on the phone was very bad and their network was down. I am going to try them again later.

THIS IS NOT MCI SERVICE.... It is through Covad so you will have to go through the whole order process over again. They think they can do a hotswap but who knows. Furthermore there is a $159 activation fee plus $19 shipping for the modem.

I asked about getting the activation fee waived or reduced and they said they would get back to me.

I cannot tell if the service is from covad or MCI. It saids

"Special Deal: Super FAST 6.0 Meg download and 768k upload with IP "

This line is in between the covad package and MCI package.

I found it here:

Omg, that's some crazy speed for those distances, and I was about to switch to Verizon, LOL!!! Oh man, I want this deal so badly, but the setup fee is a lot!!!

We should do a group deal on this so we can get the setup fee waivered, just like after the DirecTV DSL shutdown, but then again, the deal was for 100 people to signup, doubt many would do that, ;( Maybe we can try to get 25?

I tried to get the setup fee waivered and said I've been with Cyberonic for a year and a half, but the billing people told him they can't because they said they would have to move me over from MCI to Covad's network and strip the wires and stuff, in otherwords, there's a lot of work to transfer someone over.

Oh well, I tried, looks like I won't be getting that deal anytime soon, unless somehow we can get the setup fee waivered.

I do qualify for 6000/768, he said I'm about 10k ft to Covad, but he said I might at least get 6000/384, depending on some factors. Then again, that's the same thing they said when I was trying to get 1500/768 long time ago, about 384kbps upload.

Oh man, I can't believe I qualify for 6000/768!!! And Verizon can only offer me 768/128 currently, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In reality, if Verizon is correct about my CO distance being about 14k, oh boy...I could kiss that 6000/768 goodbye...

I qualify for 3000/384 through Britsys because they said the cutoff distance is 10k ft for 3000/384.

Anyways, in the meantime, if MCI does offer at least 3000/768, I be happy with that. Half of my downloads don't really go over 1.5 mbps anyways.

I have Cyberonic/MCI 1.5/768 for a while now and the service has been great. I called them today to find out how to switch to 6.0/768 and they told me they dont have any options to waive the activation fees at this time. $59.99/mon for 6.0/768 that's the killer I want it bad. It comes with a Static IP and a 4-port router. please let us know.

I think it is crap that they won't waive any activation fees for current customers. I for one won't be giving Cybermoronic a cent more in activation fees.

I can switch to Comcast tomorrow and pay $19.95 a month for three months until any new DSL service is active anytime I want for ANY PROVIDER. $159 for activation.... they can go F**k themselves.

They just don't get it and neither do the other service providers. They think DSL is a luxury when in fact they are just the opposite. DSL is a pain in the ass to provision and IMHO they should have to pay the customer just to use the service in the first place.

I agree with Hooper! In fact, we should be paid to use any service or item that proves to be a pain in the ass. Let's start with automobiles.

Activation costs money cause they switch you to a different provider. If Covad wants that money, they won't work for less. Can cyberonic eat the cost? That's a separate discussion, but I think they should consider subsidising it if you sign a contract.

I guess my point was that with cable HSI, there is no activation fee and they have better intro rates plus no contracts.

So why do DSL providers feel that they can gouge the subscriber with a ridiculous activation fee AND a 1 yr contract to boot? That's all I am saying. Are the two services that unequal?

I wonder if the one year contract and activation fee is imposed in part by the "DSL provider"? In this case It looks like it's Covad providing that speed package. Not to make excuses for Covad but it takes them their time to provision a DSL circuit and account. Now I'm sure Cyberonic may have some profit built into this to keep the monthly cost lower when you compare equal plans to say SPeakeasy and other Covad ISP partners.

Yup, $79/month after 6 months, that's just a total blow to the other Covad partners! Compared to $99/month after 1 year.

Well, I don't care that they charge a setup fee, but $159 is too much! At least, make it at the most $50, that's fine with me. In the end, I will still stick with DSL because I don't wanna go over the cable's company hidden download limit.

Who's gonna give me 3-6mbps download first?!

Hey, if you think about it, just wait a few months, maybe MCI will rollout a free upgrade to 3000/768. Then we don't have to worry about setup fee and stuff. $49/month for 3000/768 sounds good to me than $69/month for 6000/768.
