Re: IP Addressing Thanks for replying..what i need to know is what these IP Addresses are and how they are used ..I know that the Router Address is the SBC's Gateway IP but i'm confused on the Primary DSL IP and LAN IPs...How are they used ? Was told that i've 5 usable IPs ...one Primary IP and 4 LAN IPs...also what is the WAN IP ? |

davidgGood Bye My FriendPremium,MVM join:2002-06-15 none | this setup is called a routed subnet. the WAN ip is the DSL side of the cayman, the LAN ips are the ethernet or local side of the cayman. the primary ip is assign to the caymans LAN interface, the LAN ips are assigned to devices on the customer network. |

You actually have 8 addresses: Two are for SBC Wan network routing, 1 is the Router's and 5 are for your use, You log in PPPoE using username@static.sbcglobal.com or username@static_ameritech.com, you will ALWAYS pull your Router IP# which is the second to last in the range of 8, then following your router's setup you have the 5 for your LAN.
If you want detailed help go over to the ATech/SBC forum -- The only vote that's wasted is one that isn't cast.

 | Thanks very much for the reply.i'm n't too techy so could u tell me what is a WAN IP and how is it used ? I know i've 4 usable LAN IPs but they are i suppose Public LAN IPs.They are not Private IPs....so does that mean that anyone on the internet can connect to the comps that are assigned those LAN IPs.Could u also tell me which IPs are the 5 usable IPs and which are the IPs for the SBC WAN Networking ? I had listed the IPs that was received by the customer in an earlier post on the forum... |

India? well maybe not India) if it is Ameritech/SBC unless things have changed they stil run PPPoE on Statics. -- The only vote that's wasted is one that isn't cast. |

| reply to binesh_28 Your the reason I hate calling tech support for anything, you know nothing of what your doing, and just reading information from your computer screen.
I've talked to more 'techs' that have no clue what they are doing, other than what the screen tells them to do, and all of the smart techs are the ones actually given permission to send out contractors to fix something(Tier 3 usually), which obviously you are not.
I know that I will never use SBC if that is the kind of customer service I can count on if there is a problem. Tech support like yourself is why I don't like using broadband in general, in the cases where I must call tech support, I cringe when I get people who know less than the average high school student, reading from their screen trying to sound like they know what they are doing. -- My hourly rates: $25 per hour. $35 per hour if you want to watch. $45 per hour if you want to help. $75 per hour if you tried to fix it, and failed. |
